if you wanted to you could always drive an hour from Hilton head up to Hampton and I could take you out on the boat and you teach me how to catch some bass. lol  you would get to see the true beauty of south Carolina.

May just take you up on that some time. I'll have to see how much I'm allowed to be gone, as this really wasn't supposed to be a fishing vacation... So far, the wife seems to be pretty cool with everything though!

Just remember happy wife happy life.  I can't go to far because of my job but I will get you somewere to catch fish if you end up being able to make it. We can go to a lake, savannah river river,  or up in the swamps.  Will you be getting off I95 in yemasee?

potentially stupid question here... I found a place that I can rent a hobie kayak for reasonable that will deliver to the lagoons in Palmetto. From reading other stuff online, the consensus is that alligators leave kayaks alone. My question is, will they still leave me alone if I'm catching fish, or will that draw them to me??? I'd rather not be sampled by a gator.

Depending on how tame the gators are.  I have a small john boat and I have had them come up to the boat many times until I knocked them with the paddle.  That's at a lake were they never get messed with and people feed them when they aren't allowed.

That's my concern. It wouldn't be so bad in a john boat, but a kayak is a little to "their level". I may play it by ear when I get there.

I don't know, I think this video pretty much would keep me out of a kayak around gators.

They may "usually" leave you alone, but it only takes once.

Have had many a gator chase after a fish I've caught, some even grab them.  I'm not nervous around gators but that doesn't mean my guard is down.

Well, that's all I needed to see.

Fishing was fairly slow. It was hot hot hot there so it was to be expected. Had a giant LMB miss a spook once then hit it easily 4 foot in the air on his second attempt. Wouldn't touch a follow up senko. That was at the private lake.

Only other notable this was being spooled in the lagoon. 7' mh ugly stick with a Abu orra sx spinning reel and braid. Knocked 3 feet of slack in my line while I was slow rolling a 4" gulp mullet on a 1/4 oz gulp darter head. After I set the hook there was nothing I could do with it. Tightened down drag to the point I thought the rod was gonn break. I had to have had the dumbest look on my face ever and I literally just say down and laughed when it was done.

Well that's no fun...

How was Hampton Lakes other than the spook miss?

Gorgeous lake and amazing community. This lake is built for giants, and they are there for sure. I'd like to be on it in March/April thats for sure.

Lol, It was freaking hot. Like sweat beading off while sitting in the shade hot. Oh well, I had a good time, and got some much needed time with the family and away from freaking work. I still think a person needs a stay-cation for a day or two to recover from the vacation.

Yeah, the heat this time of year can sometimes make it a bit challenging to get motivated to fish on HHI.  The mosquitoes can be freakin' brutal.

Dude, those things weren't mosquitoes... those were like freaking hummingbirds! I swear, I smacked one and it smacked me back!
