Scorcher214 Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 UPDATE:I gotta put things on hold because my funds gotta go to lacrosse instead of fishing. So I'm gonna start my first swim-bait, after lurking and researching, I'm finally gonna begin. I'm gonna start off with something small, like a tru tungsten 4 inch swim-bait, same size but probably only 3 sections. Something like that, except I'm gonna make look more like a blue gill (maybe a perch) I started cutting the wood and doing some rough sanding, ill get pics asap. Quote
Pitchinkid Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 you might as well go ahead and make 2 so you can give 1 to me ;D Quote
THEbassmaster Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 if your not going to put a lip, make sure it swims well. ive tried them without lips and they just dont do it for me, some guys can, i cant. with a lip it will always work. aaron Quote
Scorcher214 Posted February 17, 2009 Author Posted February 17, 2009 I'll try it without a lip, if the magic doesn't work, then I'll add one. Quote
MONSTERhudd Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 You got along way to go, but good progress. What kind of wood are you using? What are you using to carve it? Quote
Scorcher214 Posted February 18, 2009 Author Posted February 18, 2009 well, i really don't know what kind of wood it is, feels pretty light, maybe balsa? Just found it laying around. as for what I'm using to carve it. I don't have a band saw or anything so i cant do a real good job of cutting it, maybe i could talk to my old teacher, i know he has one in his classroom. i did a little hand carving with a knife, and most of it sanding with a dremel. I think I'm just going to split it in half instead because i accidentally made it smaller than i intended. Few questions: -what kind of epoxy should i buy and where is a common place that sells it? -what would be the best joint type to use to make this work - any tips on how to make it swim without a lip, or do i just gotta experiment?
