Super User iceintheveins Posted May 26, 2015 Super User Posted May 26, 2015 So let's start a debate. Which do you guys think is better? The Curado or Lower End Tatula, especially for casting distance but also for general smooth performance. You can compare both the Tatula 100R and the Cheaper Tatula 100. I've heard almost nothing but good things about the Tatulas, while the curados most people love them but some have a lot of problems with them. Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted May 26, 2015 Super User Posted May 26, 2015 Love my Cores, Curados, and Chronarchs. Never had a problem with any of them. I'm sure Tatulas are just as good. I'm just a Shimano guy. Hootie 4 Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted May 26, 2015 Super User Posted May 26, 2015 I think the Curado is smoother, more refined, and feels more solid. I cast better with the Tatula, but I'm a magZ fan. Unless you're concerned about the extra $40, flip a coin and you'd be a winner either way. Quote
Diggy Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Pros n cons. I have 2 of each and use the curados more. They feel better to me overall, size etc. My tat type-r 8.1:1 feels like is laboring on certain baits that it shouldn't, so I found myself using the regular version of the tat more in the 7 gearing, the R looks better to me, should have gotten the 6. whatever. I honestly think the curados cast as far as the tats if not better. The braking is much easier on the tat to dial in since its external and you just have to deal with spool tension rather than opening a side plate for the internal braking, then adjusting the secondary dial plus spool tension on the curado. The tats are less expensive, they were 50 off retail when I got them way back and now they are even cheaper, under 100 retail for the regular and 130 or lesser for the R. Curados were to be found for 129-139.99 recently on retail sites which is less than what I paid which was retail, ebay still has them discounted under 140, oooof! 1 Quote
bootytrain Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 If you search back about a year you will see about 100 threads about this subject Quote
robster80 Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 i like both. curado palms better. both r smooth and cast great. Quote
SenkoGuru Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 They are both great baitcasters but I am not a big fan of the new Curado I. It feels a little cheap when compared to the older D and E model's. I really like the Tatula's much more but I've always been a fan of daiwa reels. I do not have much time right now but I'll post some thoughts later. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted May 26, 2015 Super User Posted May 26, 2015 Own both type reels, I am not really brand loyal for reels, but have my favorites for applications and I'll just say that I have sold last generation Zillions, Scorpions, Anatares HGs, Smokes, etc. to get more Tatula Type Rs. Disclaimer: I have gigantic hands so palming 400 calcuttas isn't an issue, so as far as ergonomics I don't notice them, like some smaller handed guys may. 2 Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted May 26, 2015 Super User Posted May 26, 2015 I'm a big fan of both reels. I have Curado I's and Tatula R's, the R's aren't much different than the regular ones. I also don't have any issues at all palming the Tatula. I know I'm mostly alone on this but I like the Curado I better than the E, and I really like the E. It palms better for me and feels more connected than the E series. 3 Quote
MediumHeavy Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 I've had both and now only have Tatulas. The Curado has a lower/smaller profile, but the size and weight of the Tatula do not bother me. Both cast about equally as well, in my opinion. I prefer the color scheme of the Tatula and the fact that they are a good bit cheaper if you search around. Both are a really great choice that you can't go wrong with. Quote
IDUTBass Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 I have both as well and feel it's a matter of preference. They are both great. Quote
John G Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 I know I'm mostly alone on this but I like the Curado I better than the E, and I really like the E. It palms better for me and feels more connected than the E series.I feel the same way. 3 Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted May 27, 2015 Author Super User Posted May 27, 2015 I'll probably stick with Curados for my next reel then, I already have one I and one E. Was just thinking about a Tatula for my next if it casted better or was more foolproof. But sounds like it's a slight notch below the Curado. Quote

ibobpeb Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 I had the Curado I but after fishing my buddy's Lew's Team Lite, Tournament Pro, and BB1 Pro, the casting distance and braking system is superior on the Lew's. Lew's has a smaller profile and is lighter in weight too. Funny enough it holds about the same amount of line. I sold my Curado I and bought the Team Pro Z the next day. It's that d**n good. Sorry, but the Curado I is so overrated and over-hyped. I'm not surprised prices dropped down to $130-140. I have a Tatula as well and I think heavier reels like the Tatula is great for balancing tip-heavy rods. It casts better than the Curado I, too. That said, I prefer light reels below 6 ounces though. For anything under $300 it's all Lews for me. $350+ and I'd start looking at the Shimano Metanium and Aldebaran for low profile casters. 1 Quote
bassinn Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 I hated my Tatula at first, but I'm now super happy with it after I got it dialed in. Quote
stkbassn Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Yeah, both very good reels in my opinion. I cast my Curados and I say "Wow", I cast my Tatulas and I say " Wow" ....likem both quite a bit. 1 Quote
reason162 Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Having fished both reels in saltwater, the Curado has given me fewer problems. The fact that the T-Wing system requires the the worm shaft to turn means you need to pay attention to greasing/oiling 2 extra points in the reel. My first Tatula (fished with floro) started developing the infamous T-Wing groove, and I returned it for a new one. The one I have now is spooled with braid and so far zero signs of grooving, but I have no idea (and it seems neither do anyone else) if the type of line caused the grooving or a certain batch of T-Wings had issues...theories/assumptions/paranoia runs through every "grooving" thread in every forum. Having said that, I cast slightly further with the Tat. It also feels more powerful when retrieving under load. I am generally throwing larger/heavier baits with the Tat than the Curado. Quote
