I'm due for an upgrade. What's your recommendation? I'm used to Android. MOTO X and HTC 9 are also possibilities popcorn.gif

Slone I just upgraded to the Moto X a couple of months ago from an older Galaxy. I like the Motorola. The camera is much better. The screen and graphics on all the newer phones are amazing. They all have features that are very cool. IPhone users are loyal, but having learned on Android I will stay there.

iPhone. The ease of use is what makes it so great. You can figure everything out in a few minuets.

Been an android user for many years, can't comment on Iphone.  I do check out the android forums, people have been complaining about lollipop, seems to be some bugs.

Going from a Motorola to a Galaxy that I have now, the battery life of the Motorola is far superior, the functionality of the Galaxy is pretty good and I like it.  Other than the battery life a complaint I have with the Galaxy is the speaker, it's a bit tinny sounding with it's one speaker compared to the 2 with Motorola.

I kept my size down to a 5" screen, didn't want to go bigger, if I had chosen a larger one the HTC and LG are pretty nice, think the LG has the sharpest display.

I love my MOTO X, had it a little over 2 years no issues, my wife and daughter also have the same phone, and no issues there either.

Like Apple stuff, but not the iPhone.  I have a Apple Laptop and iPad that I love though.  I would go with the Galaxy.  I have had 4 different version and never had an issue.

I had iPhones since the 2nd generation and made the mistake of swithcing to Galaxy 5 for a bit,  I customized the look to basically be an iPhone, but two of the apps I used frequiently for PDF signatures and one for spreadsheets were not supported by the Galaxy's software plaftform,  also had tons of issues receiving text messages from iPhone users due to a known issue with Galaxy users trying to receive text messages from previous iPhone users (http://9to5mac.com/2014/05/16/apple-being-sued-over-imessage-bug-resulting-in-undelivered-text-messages-to-android-users/), I know it was Apple's fault :computer-17: , but I jumped ship once that happened since I was missing important text messages and went back to the iPhone 6.   So if you are into highly customizable, powerful phone then get the Galaxy/Android platform, but if you want a simplisitic interface in a bit more stable platform in my experience then get an iPhone.

I'm in the same boat, my sg3 is getting dated and slow. Thinking about either of those phones. I don't want bigger. :( Call me old or whatever, I don't need a tv in my pocket. I really wish I could go without a phone. Sometimes "tech" is so over rated, overused and exaggerated by the current generations.

Not to say I don't like it, but sometimes convenience DOES get in the way.

I agree. One thing I don't care for is all the junk preloaded on my current phone that I will never use. I've tried to delete it without success. There are a few apps that I want/need but most of it is uninteresting to me. My ol lady is complaining because the storage on my phone is limited and I have deleted all sorts of pictures. She is computer illiterate but works her iphone like any teenage girl can. Apparently when I deleted the pictures from my phone, they disappeared from hers as well because she never saved them. So, it's all my fault :laugh5:

Any thoughts on the Nexus google phone? Looks like it doesn't come with the unneeded garbage.

dunno about google phone. I use IDrive with all my phones/computers, so all the pictures on all the phones in my house get backed up automatically...then they can delete them to have more storage...my wife is the worst offender. She fills her phone up with pictures every few months. :) No worries with IDrive.

Not only do the mfgs. load up with bloatware the carriers like Verizon do as well.  Rooting is the only way to get rid of the stuff, that will negate the warranty and one should be pretty tech savy to do it.

I use both dropbox and google drive, everything synchs to my home pc too.

I like my smartphones but I don't really need one.  The technology can be very useful for business, if I were still in business I'd never be without one.  But different strokes for different folks, got a buddy back in Michigan owning a pretty good sized scrap yard, spends his day on the phone, still using a black rotary, lol, I kid you not.
