ThatZX14Fella Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 I know this topic has been discussed before, but I couldn't get anything when I searched it. Not sure if its the computer or search engine. Anyways, I picked up some Real Magic today because I've seen people say how line conditioner can lube the reel and make the line more manageable. I tried to find some KVD but they didn't have it at Wal-Mart. So what do you guys think about Real Magic? Is it worth it? I sprayed some on the line and done a few casts in the yard and the line didn't seem to be as coiled. As far as the increased casting distance that it promises, I didn't notice much difference, but I'm not the best at casting. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted May 24, 2015 Super User Posted May 24, 2015 I tried and did not care for it. I do however like KVD line conditioner. It works pretty much as described. Quote
Kyle46N Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 I use it on 6 lb mono on my ultralight reels. It works well, but you need to let it soak in for a half hour or so. At least to get the best results. So I spray it on before I leave the house to go fishing. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Reel Magic is nothing more than silicone like wd 40 or the Walmart generic version. The petroleum distillate that makes the oil spray able actually degrades the line slightly making it softer. Not very environmentally friendly either. KVD coats and treats the line. Safer and more effective. 1 Quote

BASSPATROL247 Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 I also looked for kvd line conditioner but couldnt find it so i picked up some real magic and sprayed my spools that have fluro and co-poly and sat them overnight, the memory was reduced a lot and it casts a lot better for me now. Im just curious how kvd is different??? Is it not sprayed? Its just silicone too isnt it?? Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 25, 2015 Super User Posted May 25, 2015 After I've oiled my reels I spray silicone on them, I put nothing on the line, braid or mono. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted May 25, 2015 Super User Posted May 25, 2015 The KVD is such good stuff that it's well worth ordering online if you can't find it locally. No other line conditioner works like it does. Quote
BASSPATROL247 Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Im pretty impressed with real magic. What makes kvd's better? Just silicone spray correct? Quote

Delaware Valley Tackle Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 KVD is NOT silicone. I believe it's a polymer that coats and conditions the line without degrading it. It is a non petroleum product and better for the environment. Quote
ThatZX14Fella Posted May 25, 2015 Author Posted May 25, 2015 How good is it for your reel? I can't get into my Pflueger to clean it and oil it so I think that may help a little with the longevity of the reel. Plus, I like that it helps with line, obviously. My Accurist is dead. Lost some of the parts when I was trying to clean it and got frustrated with the springs and ripped them out since I didn't feel like ordering the parts anyways. No biggie though, it was already starting to feel kinda gritty and odd for a $100 reel. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 These products can be used for an outside wipe down but have no place inside a reel especially wd 40 etc Quote
ThatZX14Fella Posted May 26, 2015 Author Posted May 26, 2015 Hmmm, well I want to clean and lube my reel, but cant get the sideplate off. I took it apart as far as I could and the sideplate wouldn't pop off so I don't know how I'm gonna work on it. It's only a $50 reel, so I don't feel too bad about it. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted May 26, 2015 Super User Posted May 26, 2015 I don't have a way to order off the internet. Lol D'OH! That sucks. It's the bees knees. Better casts, more natural presentation, and is good for your reel too. 1 Quote
