I was watching a fishing show with Greg Hackney Monday night, and he said that when he is fishing with a buzz bait or a spinner bait, he ALWAYS adds a trailor hook.  Is there any reason why you shouldn't add a trailor hook to your spinner/buzz baits?

I always use a trailer hook when fishing a buzzbait but i dont fish a trailer hook on a spinnerbait when i am getting hung up to often.

I'm with you, I like to bump my spinner on anything and everything and I feel like if I had a trailor hook I'd be getting hung all the time.  I have used the Strike King Premium Plus spinner bait that Hackney was promoting on the show.  It comes factory rigged with a trailor, and I didn't have a problem with getting hung, but it still doesn't feel safe.

I NEVER fish a SB without one.  I've had far too many fish lost that would have been hooked solid with the trailer hook to ever go back to not using one.  I toss them in trees, run them through brushpiles/stakebeds, and even pitch them into openings in shoreline brush.  Sure, once in awhile I'll get snagged, but not enough to quit using them.

I try not to fish a trailer hook if im not in a tournament.  My new favorite spinnerbait is the premier plus also.  i dont take off the trailer hook on that bait.  I fished Lake Toho last weekend with it and never got hung up.  (no stumps or brush, LOTS of grass, pads, etc.)

About 2 weeks ago i was fishing with a friend and i had on a terminator spinnerbait with a trailer hook.  I caught a 2 lb er and when i got it to the boat i realized i may have just killed this bass.  He was hooked on the primary hook but the trailer had hooked back behind one of his eyes.  i felt bad.  I love fishing and would never do intentional harm to a bass.  I know it sounds silly.  Anyway, he was tore up pretty bad from the trailer hook.  So, i am a fan of them but i will generally take them off if im not in it for money.

I always use a trailer hook on spinnerbait and buzzbait, its just a little extra insurance. That fish hits just a second too late without that trailer you may miss him. Ive caught lots of fish especially on a buzzbait that were hooked on the trailer.

I use a trailer hook on buzzbaits, spinnerbaits and Chatterbaits. The majority are hooked on the main hook, but just enough are on the trailer hook for me to keep using them. Just today a two-pounder on a Chatterbait was hooked just inside the lip on the trailer hook. Things like that keep me using them.

Use a trailer hook on the buzz.  Like to bounce the spinners off of structure, so, do not typically use a trailer if there are a lot of sticks.
