Colson_G Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 I'm in the market for a new rod and would like to get a nice rod I can double as a rod for frogs and flippin into bulrush, or grass (typically not larger than 1 oz). Anyone have any suggestions for me? I was thinking about the Veritas 2.0 but don't know whether to go with 7'6 or 7 foot. I also was looking at the Daiwa Procyon, but I would appreciate any suggestions. Quote
Colson_G Posted May 24, 2015 Author Posted May 24, 2015 Oh I forgot to write I'm not looking at over a 100$ rod Quote
fishinphilly Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 well for me i like a 7ft because I'm a bank fisherman but the falcon bucoo rod they have a 7ft heavy and my dad has a denali jadewood j2 7ft mh for jigs but i think they have a 7ft H too and both are about $100 Quote
chelboed Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 I've got a Falcon Bucoo Micro Pitchin Stick. (6'10" H Fast) Love it for frogs. Quote
bankguy315 Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 i flip with a 7'3" H duckett and i love it. i also have a veritas2.0 7'3" MH, good rod but the MH is not for frogs. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted May 25, 2015 Super User Posted May 25, 2015 7'mh lightning rod shock IMHO is about the best frog rod you can buy for less than $100, and it makes a fine flipping and pitching rod too. I fish them with bottom contact baits right along side my slightly more expensive Vendettas and Veritas's and notice no lack of "feel" even though they are a "cheaper" rod. In fact, the more I use them, the more I like them. They beat the other rods I mentioned in price, plus are more comfortable for me to fish with, as I like the reel seats and smaller plastic but better than what Abu uses. Quote
Colson_G Posted May 25, 2015 Author Posted May 25, 2015 Went ahead and went with the Veritas 7' Heavy. I'm a kayak fisherman and so I prefer not to have too long of rods and so I thought 7' would be the best option for me. I have abu volatile for topwaters at the coast and I really like the feel of it, so I think I'll like the grip of the veritas as well. I'm fairly certain it'll make a good flippin rod and I'll see how it does with frogs. I was thinking about a Berkley lightning shock, but Tackle Warehouse didn't have any available until August, and I also thought about a Duckett Ghost, but they don't really put many specifications on their rods at least on TW, so I went with the Veritas. Gonna pair it with a Lews LFS in 7.5:1 with 50 pound braid (anyone care to put up a convincing argument for 65??). Also picked up an Orra winch to pair with a Lew's perfect crankbait rod, never used a Lew's rod but I'll see how it goes. TW, has 15% off on most items currently and 5$ 2 day shipping on everything, so you get a nice deal. 1 Quote
KayakBasser Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Veritas 2.0 all the way, how long you want it( ) depends on weather your fishing from shore, boat kayak ect. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 30, 2015 Global Moderator Posted May 30, 2015 I use a 7' 3" H/F H2O Ethos rod for a dual purpose frog/flipping rod. Quote
