Well, I'm working on my GED. All I have to do is take the practice test to make sure I'm ready for it and then I can take the tests. Also went to the doctor for my depression/anxiety and suicidal thoughts. Having to attend therapy, which I'm not happy about. I'm fixing to get prescribed meds for my depression, and possibly separate meds for anxiety. Planning to attend AGI courses (American Gunsmithing Institute). I still need to work on my license and a job, but I'm pretty stressed out right now already. Sorry for the pointless topic, just figured some of you may be interested.

That's awesome! It takes a man to step up to what's going on in his life, and that's what you are doing. I wish you luck.

Thanks bud. It has taken me a long time to get help. I just felt it was time to get some. I'll definitely need the luck.

Good for you taking the step and talking to someone. One very sad and unfortunate part about my line of work is I think a lot of guys feel like it's a sign of weakness to ask for help when your mind starts wandering to dark places, when in reality it should be a sign of strength. I've been around for too many co-workers who couldn't take it anymore and didn't ask for help. Hopefully you'll get the help you need to get yourself where you need to be.

I've been dealing with depression for years and after multiple changes in medication, I finally have it under 'control'.   The hardest part for me was/is friends and family that don't understand. I heard 'Get it under control or Man up' more times than I care to remember.  Close friends are nonexistent and my marriage was on the rocks for a while. Bottom line is that it's a long row to hoe. I can't imagine adding the other things you're dealing with.

Glad to see you still have a positive approach to things and I wish you the best.  PM me when you get AGI certified. Between myself and my son-in-law there is some business for you

Best of luck and I'll keep you in my prayers.

Praying everything goes well. Hang in there and continue to surround yourself with positive people, close friends, and family. Don't be afraid to get away for some fishing from time to time. It can be therapeutic and a way of helping get your mind off of things.

Good for you.  The only thing stopping anyone from doing what they need to do is themselves and you are taking the right steps to make it happen.  Keep it up!!

Thanks for the kind words all! I am hoping everything will work out the way I want. I think once I get some meds for my anxiety and depression I'll be able to do the things I need to do to get to where I want to be. The anxiety holds me back a lot. That's the main reason I'm 20 and still don't have a job or license or anything. The main reason I'm doing this stuff is for my girlfriend, but I'm also doing it for myself. I'm ready to get my life started. I'll keep you guys updated on how things are going.

And to make this subject kinda fishing related, once I get my job, I'm planning to buy a higher end baitcast setup since I screwed up my Accurist. Lol

Good for you taking the right steps sometimes we haft to fight and become the man we want and know we can be I'm happy to hear that your bettering your life bud you can do it never let anyone tell you you can't . asking for help is the right step there is nothing wrong with that all and dosent make you less of a man. I hope everything works out for you bud. I know how you feel on the depression a year a go I had a very bad quad accident that left me with 3 bronking rubs and a head injury and I all most lost my life for it. But I was lucky to come back for it but let me tell you it left me depressed because I couldn't walk with out help or really do anything and it messed with my head i was diagnosed with PTSD from my accident and it messed my life up bad it lost my good friend and girlfriend from it and it took me 3 mouths to man up and get the help I needed. I'm pround of you for going to take to someone and doing what you need to do it will all work out in the end keep you head up bud you got this

I agree with all the positive feedback. I would add one thing. I understand that the idea of therapy is uncomfortable. I also understand that anxiety and depression are often related to unresolved issues in our past. Therapy can help us identify and come to terms with these things. Adding medications to the mix without examining ourselves is often a recipe for failure. Good luck and may God bless you.

Clearly you have never seved in or needed assistance from the V.A. Clearly you have never worked in Heathcare. Clearly you have never worked in Insurance ( medical ) I have, I can say that statement is ridiculous. Sorry, it just is..

To the OP, I'm glad you are getting assistance,

Many do not or cannot. I wish you all the best that life has to offer...

Therapy is actually awesome with the right therapist. Don't be afraid to switch therapists if you don't feel a good connection (provided you have the option, of course). Meds are good (and sometimes necessary!) but many disorders respond well to therapies that do not involve medication.

It's a process. However, after your first session I can almost guarantee that you'll feel 1000% better. Seriously, you would be surprised what just talking to someone will fix.

You've done one of the harder things, which is admitting you need help and then you did an even harder thing by seeking it. Good on ya.

My appointment to get prescribed medication is going to be on Tuesday. Ready to start feeling normal. I've been like this since I was 14 and it'll be nice to finally feel halfway normal. I'm sure I won't be completely happy and not anxious all the time, but hopefully it'll be better. Maybe it'll be the boost I need to get my life started.

I'm no doctor but maybe as you start to accomplish your goals and move forward your barriers will lessen. best of luck to you. Post up a picture of that GED certificate!!!

Good for you! Many people are victims of circumstance. They 'victimize' themselves, and refuse to take responsibility for what the need to do. By taking responsibility you are breaking the cycle and that can lead to something great. Good luck and God bless

First best of luck to you, second you are already making progress, you have clearly defined goals, you are already working toward accomplishing them, so CONGRATS on making it this far. I'm glad that you are getting help, as you walk this path there will be times that you'll want to quit, the past keeps rearing its ugly head, stay strong; easy to say hard to do. One word of caution, from your post you're in a relationship, I encourage you as you continue to heal that getting better is for you and her. She is obviously very important to you, sorta serving as the catalyst to start getting help. As you continue to heal discover the qualities in yourself that she sees, build on it. Again I really like you're setting goals as you accomplish them, set more, so you're always moving forward.

son, I'm just an older geezer, who lives in another state,  I will most likely never meet you or communicate in any other way than this forum.  HOWEVER, when you put at the bottom of your posts that you would drag yourself through broken glass, JUST TO WATCH ME CEASE TO EXIST,  I genuinely don't care if you get better or not.
