Steveo-1969 Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 My biggest smallmouth so far this year is 14". (Ok, stop laughing! ha-ha) I hate to say this, but you guys are making me feel better about the smallie I lost on Sunday afternoon. Wading in a river, I threw a jig into a slack area and when I lifted up on the rod thought I was snagged on a rock. Gave it a little tug to free it and it was a fish. She raced at me and I tried to set the hook harder but then she jumped... and then jumped again... Holy crap, this fish is 3+ pounds which is big for me. I might get one shot a year at a smallie this big! I finally caught up to her and she turned and... here came my jig. I'm still a little nauseous over it. 3 Quote
fisherrw Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 I have only landed a 3 pounder this year so far that was the biggest the summer is when it really turns on for me though. 1 Quote
*Hank Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 I have only landed a 3 pounder this year so far that was the biggest the summer is when it really turns on for me though. Same here...The biggest ones I've cuaght so far this year was a 3.5lb smallie and a 3-4lb large mouth(didn't have a scale),I thought I would stick a pig during the spawn but I never got much time to fish and the conditions weren't rite but hopefully there will be bigger. 1 Quote
WolfyBrandon Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Wolfy, did you catch those in your area? If so those have to be huge for there I would think. Great job. Thanks, Yep, same area I always fish. They have made me fall in love with fishing the early season despite the tough conditions, right now I'm surrounded by dinks and buck bass and can't even break 2lb... lol. If I catch one now that weighs 1lb+ it's considered a "nice one". WolfyBrandon Quote

FloridaBasser1 Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 So far I "LANDED" an 8# For all you land fisherman like me- you don't need a bass boat with all the extaments to catch Big, Pig bass. "Just a Fishing Rod, a Scale, and a Backpack of Baits." Ish 1 Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted June 4, 2015 Super User Posted June 4, 2015 I have only fished about 12 hours total this year. My biggest bass so far was the first fish I caught, in the first 10 minutes of my first (very brief) outing this season, May 4th. A bit over 4lbs: Haven't lost anything bigger. Yet. Quote

bankguy315 Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Best landed was a little over 9lbs. I lost one yesterday that looked to be 10-12 Quote
Super User senile1 Posted June 5, 2015 Super User Posted June 5, 2015 I've caught quite a few of these little rascals this year (between 3 and 4 lbs) but nothing bigger. I had one on last weekend that warrants a "one that got away" story. I cast a jig and craw to a lone stick-up by the dam at a new lake and felt the slightest of ticks. After setting the hook, I thought I had a catfish as they sometimes like the JJs on my craws. The fish just stayed deep and wouldn't come up, pulling my rod aggressively toward the water. My heart kind of leaped in my throat when I got a look at her as she surfaced about 15 - 20 feet from the boat. I immediately tried pulling to my left and down to keep her from leaping. Unfortunately, I pulled the hook free from her mouth. She might have been at least twice the weight of the one in the pic above, though I didn't have my remote digital weight estimator to fire at her and get a reading. Sometimes the ones you lose can make you feel like an amateur. 1 Quote

HuskerBassin Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Not sure on weight, somewhere around 3-3.5 I'd guess. I lost one about 15 minutes before I caught that one that was quite a bit bigger, I got a good look at it when it jumped and it looked to be closer to 5. That one will probably be closer to 7 pounds by the time the season's over. Quote
BASSPATROL247 Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 not sure on weight but i guessed 7 maybe a lil more...hit a half ounce cordell in bleeding shad. Quote
