fsufan82 Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 My dad and I are looking to upgrade from our early 90s bass tracker to a decent fiberglass in the 7-12k range. We found this Stratos on CL and it looks to be in really nice shape and a good price. Are there any concerns we should be worried about with this boat? It's about 4 hours away so if we aren't looking to make multiple trips to get it checked or anything. Thanks guys http://atlanta.craigslist.org/sat/boa/5035744753.html Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted May 22, 2015 Super User Posted May 22, 2015 Looks like a pretty clean boat. I'm not a Johnson fan, so I would walk away from it personally. I also never pay asking price, so even if they dropped it to $8k that would work. Regardless if the boat is 15 minutes away or 15 hours away there isn't a snowballs chance in the hot place that I'd buy it without at least a compression test. 1 Quote
Al Wolbach Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Ditto and take it to the lake and make sure the accessories work. Sure looks good..........Al Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted May 22, 2015 Super User Posted May 22, 2015 Be careful with those Statos' around that time frame. There was a recall on the hauls because the transom on them was falling apart. My tournament partner just bought a 2000 Stratos back in October and it's currently in the shop getting the fiberglass on the entire back end rebuilt. Thankfully the insurance company is eating the $8k bill to get all that done. Quote
Gotfishyfingers? Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 CL is scam central.Have you contacted the seller via phone yet?? I don't see a phone # available. There are a few things in the ad that don't seem right and are common with scams. One major sign is no phone number. The photos are from 2011and the registration letters say AL for Alabama but the ad says southeast of Atlanta. Plus the wording is a little funny. Just be careful to never send money before seeing the boat in person. If it is real, I would go check it out asap!! Quote
fsufan82 Posted May 27, 2015 Author Posted May 27, 2015 UPDATE: We contacted him and talked to him on the phone for quite a while about it. Drove up to see it and test drive it the next day and the boat was in immaculate condition for the age. The boat has been kept in a garage since the day it was bought new and you can tell. We bought it and have taken it out twice already with no issues. Thanks for the replies everyone 4 Quote

It annoys me people ask about a potential purchase, get feedback, and then never let anyone know what they decided. Good to hear that it seems like a quality boat. 1 Quote
ksboy Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 That's a nice boat! Mind telling us what the final price was? I got on the thread after you bought it so I didn't get a chance to see the year and size of the motor, either. Thanks Quote
Surfcaster Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Envious. What is the year, model and hp. I did not look at the CL site before it was removed. Quote
