I was wondering if any of the Yama hard baits are any good?  They look good and I love their soft baits but do they work?

Their jerkbaits IMO are only good if you are fishing slow in cold water. Tried the smallest size popper and it's not even fishable, but I am a big fan of their walk-the-dog bait, I have the smallest size of that one and it almost has a glide to it.

I can't imagine them being worth the price tag ;)

Actually, 8.99 is not horrible. Ots not great, but its not horrible. Are they made in the IS like their plastic baits?

Ah that isn't horrible.  I think one of the ones I saw at Dick's was about $14, and that price tag would be pretty hard for me to justify.  I just bought 3 packs of Yums, and 4 packs of Power Bait for less then that ;)  But I'd personally usually rather scour discount bins and turn in rebates then buy something really specific.

I have a couple of the square bills, I've caught a handful of fish on them, and I don't throw square bills a lot.

I also tried the popper.  Issue with mine is, they don't pop.  They just submerge for the length of your pull and then resurface.  8# mono on a m/h spinning rod with a fast tip.  $$$ down the drain for me.

Yeah I understand. Have you seen the Jawbone lures or the XCalibur lures at your local Dick's? Great lures for the price!

The only bait I'm curious to try is the lipless crank after using the jerkbait. Wasn't to impressed. Kinda hard to get a lipless crank wrong though, you can at least usually find a purpose for it anyways.

The jawbones look almost exactly like the Yamamoto's, and I can't imagine them being much less effective.

Yes. Some people may recommend changing hooks.

I use the poppers like walking baits (They don't pop) and I have caught tons of fish on them at night.
