Super User Raul Posted May 22, 2015 Super User Posted May 22, 2015 it most certainly does with certain techniques I would´t bet my money on that, plain and simple. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 22, 2015 Super User Posted May 22, 2015 Depends on what the rod is used for, I'm 5'4 and I love my 8' rods but not for pitching. I don't pitch or flip in the sense that most on here do it, I do it with spinning under docks for snook, much easier with a 7' rod, if I have the 8' I'll use it. As far as the 6'6 in the OP, that's a rod size and length that doesn't really match any kind of freshwater fishing I do. I wouldn't buy that size and length, but if I acquired one I could find a use for it. Quote
21farms Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Your height has nothing to do with the length of the rod. I find "matching your fishing rod length to your height" one of the most stupid things I've ever heard. for overhead casting, it'd make no difference. but for pitching, a shorter rod allows the fisherman to start the arc of his pitch further back without the rod tip dipping into the water. also, i don't want to be slapping the water constantly when doing tip-down techniques like walking-the-dog, popping, or working a jerkbait. 1 Quote

All good points and a great point about tip down techniques. I have lost count of how many times guys have posted about not having a jerkbait rod that is too long because they do not want to slap the water with their rod tip. That is a direct correlation between your height and rod length. 1 Quote
tnt2671 Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 I would´t bet my money on that, plain and simple. i'd hate to take your money but i have personally own rods from 7'11 to 6'6'' and theres a benefit for a shorter rod for certain applications dependent on your height as some have pointed out in previous posts. Super User F14A-B Posted May 22, 2015 Super User Posted May 22, 2015 I used a 6'6" heavy for mucho years, in seriously hydrilla infested waters... Truthfully the whole 7'11" rod is way more trouble than it's worth in my opinion.. 7'5" is a good lenght.. A 6'6" rod is handy to me... Quote
