I got the 7' ML-F spinning rod, get that for your dad if they are still available. It is called a medium light but it is just Lews designation, in reality this is more of a medium power rod in my book. The rod is really nice, actually nice than what I expected and you aren't going to find guides that good an any rod of this price, if they are still available get one.

SJ, Post a few pics of your rod if you can.. It will give Dan an opportunity to see the rod up close.

The lowest weight he tosses is a 1/4oz jig with a grub tail. Not sure a mh is favourable.

Buy this rod before they're gone. 1/4oz jig with 1/8oz trailer will be fine.

I can't post pictures here, I use to be able to but for some reason photobucket no longer works here or I would.

No need for the pics, ive seen some online, looks like a nice rod. I believe i remembered you writing about an fenwick elitetech smallmouth, how does that compare in terms of build quality and crispness in the blank? I know its an older rod but a friend of a friend is selling a few in like new condition. Not similar in length or power, their the 6'9 m. Another option for me to consider.

You have a chance to buy a new Lews Team Rod for eighty bucks. It's a gift for your father, right?  Buy the Lews. He'll be astounded and grateful.

Yes its a gift, hes coming from a cheap daiwa exceler that hes used for years with a stradic, so anything really would be a huge upgrade

I just ordered the 7' ml spinning rod! Thank you for posting this deal! Now I need a new reel haha. What size spinning reel would you guys suggest?

Sweet, thanks for the input. Leaning slightly towards the mh as he uses it for pike, walleye and bass. Hes a very basic fisherman and doesnt want more than one rod. According to the line ratings, he shouldnt have to big of an issue throwing that jig

I picked up the MH spinning. Did not really need it and have not used it yet, could not pass up for the price. Handling it, the fast tip should help with casting and the fit and finish is excellent.

The Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth is a rod that should have been priced a lot higher than it was and I feel it is better than the Team Lews HM85 but the HM85 is no slouch. The Lews uses better guides and the blank is quality, if this rod performs half as good as it looks, it will be a winner and I'm thinking it will be awesome, I'll let you know after I have it on the water tomorrow. I think a brand new, lifetime warranty rod beats the used model but I'll tell you your dad will love it, the ML is rated to 1/2oz but I'll be it could handle it, a grub on a 1/4oz head will work great as will a grub on a 1/8oz head, it will work well in the weight range as it feel more like a medium power to me.

I got the 7'6" mh cranking rod and the 7'3" xh rod today. Decent looking rods. The reflective logo makes the rod look cheap IMO, but that's just me being picky. The guides were misaligned on both the rods. A $200 (retail) rod should have better quality control than this. But.....for $79 each I'm not gonna complain too much. Overall they seem like solid rods. Hope the performance will be better

My rod showed up today. I put a Diawa Tatula (the only reel I own) on it, and tried it out. It's exactly what I had hoped for, and I'm ready to order another. It's better than I expected. Thanks again for posting this deal.

One of mine came in today, the 7 m/m, still waiting on the 7' mh/m. Im really impressed, quality control is excellent, guides line up perfectly, and the rod feels better to me than I had anticipated, its also a little bit beefier than I would have thought too. Im taking it out this weekend and going to throw some squarebills. So far I really like it, and it feels great with a tournament pro. I wish I had more money to get another one lol

I've caught more bass in cranks than ever before.

You're going to love those rods.

Got to try out my 7'4" Heavy/moderate fast football jighead Team Lews today.   And the fish were eating too.   I love the rod.   Very light, love the action, and it handles the fish.   I was throwing a biffle head with Rage Menace with it.   Wish I would have bought two!

FYI, I bought this particular rod because I was looking for a MH, but saw that it had a moderate fast action even though it was Heavy.  It fishes like a Medium Heavy.  So taking a chance paide off.

I took a couple of decades off from fishing and am just now getting back into it, so I apologize for the basic questions. I want to order another rod in MH, but not sure on the length. For a guy who fishes primarily from shore would you recommend the 7' or the 7' 6"? Thanks for any insight.

The 7' MHM arrived today. Same great quality as the 6'6" MM. However this one is 1/2oz-1 1/4oz MHM. The rod seems a bit soft for this rating. I'm fishing tomorrow so I'll post how things went with it.

7' should be fine and it transport easier. Take a look at the Lews rods at American Legacy Fishing. I would suggest a MHF 1/4-3/4oz or 3/8-1oz as an all around rod.

The new model by  ***, Black *** Full Cork grip is also a very nice rod. You can buy them directly from 13 now for 100 bucks.
