bassinn Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Jig n Pig and Texas Rig. What do you guys recommend. I was looking at the Daiwa Tatula 100, Tatula Type-R HD 100, Revo SX for the casting reel and a Tatula rod 7'1 MH XFAST. What do you guys recommend for rod ? I'd would like to spend ~ $300 or way less if there is something good for less. Quote
BASSPATROL247 Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 cant give no advice on a brand or model since I don't have the grade of rod you are trying to buy but I can say I would recommend something in the 7ft to 7''4' length MH fast, that's what I use and I like it. that being said I think you could spend a little less money and still get something you will like but he if you have 300 to spend go for it... I know I would! Quote
Ozark_Basser Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Lots of options in the $300 range. If it were me, in would go with a curado I in 7.2:1 and a 7'1 MH Fast *** Black. Quote
bassinn Posted May 19, 2015 Author Posted May 19, 2015 Just ordered the *** 7'1 MH Fast. I would like to go cheaper on the baitcasting reel. What's some good options around $100 ? What gains do you get spending more on the reel? Also I'm new with the baitcasing rigs. I recently got a Revo SX and Veritas Winch for my crankbait setup and it works really well. Been out a couple times and no backlashes yet. I just recently read that the Revo SX is not that great of a reel and gen 3 have terrible QC. Is this true? It's like hrmm, should I return it. hehehe Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted May 19, 2015 Super User Posted May 19, 2015 Lew's SS Pflueger Supreme Daiwa Exceller All are $99. As long as its a 7 gear ratio you'll be fine. Spending more will get you more bearings, and possibly superior build quality, but not always. Quote

Reviews on websites aren't really reliable, some people will bash a product with no experience because they heard it was bad or they had a bad prior experience with that company. So now that you got it just see how it works for you, you may find you really like it or maybe you won't but don't give up on something because you head it wasn't good after the fact. For $100 I'd go Pflueger Supreme casting reel, I have the Supreme spinning and the Supreme XT casting and I gave my friend my old Supreme casting reel that was 11 years old and worked like the day I bought it. The Supreme is basically the same reel as my XT for $50 less, the difference is the XT has an extra bearing and also weighs less because of a more expensive material for the side plates. At $100 you are going to get a great reel with the Pflueger Supreme but most reels are decent at this price point, just stay away from the graphite framed reels, you don't want that, side plates are ok, but not frames. I have no complaints on my Gen3 Revo SX. I've never owned a baitcaster before, so I don't have experience with all of the brands, but it seems good to me and it catches fish. I'm not brand loyal, most of us just want the best bang for our buck. It's nice buying expensive gear I guess, but it won't make you a better fisherman. Thanks for the suggestion. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted May 19, 2015 Super User Posted May 19, 2015 St.Croix Avid 7' MH Fast with a Shimano Citica. This a get the job done type setup. A great rod and a work horse reel. Quote
d-camarena Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 For texas rigs i use a bps pro qualifier on a h20 xpress ethos 7ft medium heavy rod. I love it, its my all around rod pretty much Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted May 20, 2015 Super User Posted May 20, 2015 I use a BPS PQ 7.1.1 and a 7' MH Veritas Micro Guide. If you want to upgrade on the reel, a 7.2.1 Curado I or a Daiwa Tatula would be the best reels out there to keep you in or under your price range. If you can find the old Chronarch 200e in a 7 ratio, it's a little more fool proof than the Curado I. Quote
bassinn Posted May 21, 2015 Author Posted May 21, 2015 Tried the Tatula out in the store today and I didn't like it much. Feels cheap and doesn't seem durable. Revo SX feels nice and I really liked the Lews LFS Speed Spool, felt good and close to the Revo SX. I'll probably pull the trigger on the LFS Speed Spool, it seemed awesome for $99 Quote
illinifan4152 Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 The curado I can be had for about 130 new right now, or even a used Chronarch 200e for about the same price. That would be my choice. Quote
