jaredkelley6 Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Hey guys, I'm lookin for good rod for deep diving crankbaits. I was hoping to find a good one in the $100 range. I don't much about fishing deep crankbaits mainly bc I'm used to fishin ponds. I've researched and found the rod you basically want is a 7'6 medium heavy and moderate action (everyone has their own opinions and setups though). I was looking at the Bass Pro carbonlite rods. Any suggestions??? Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted May 19, 2015 Super User Posted May 19, 2015 The 7'6" MH M Carbonlite should be a good deep cranking rod. I would also look at the BPS Crankin' Sticks, the entire line is meant for crankbaits. Quote
CRANKENSTIEN Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Skeet Reese deep crank Rod. I have the Rick Clunn rod by wright McGill. I believe they are very Similiar and the Clunn rod isn't made anymore. I am happy with its feel and performance Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted May 19, 2015 Super User Posted May 19, 2015 For $130, you can pick up a St. Croix Premier (or even less during most holiday sales, like Memorial Day... hint hint) Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted May 19, 2015 Super User Posted May 19, 2015 Right now on TW you can get a Fenwick Aetos 7'6" MH-M cranking rod for $129, but there is only 1 left so if you are going to act you may have a few days but I'd make up my mind soon. Quote
DTack Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 The bass pro shops crankin' stick was always a favorite of mine when I was on a lower budget! I don't think you'd be disappointed! I was in bass pro the other day and had to pick one up to feel it in store, still had the same cool feeling! Quote
tbone1993 Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 MY buddies like the veritas winch rod. I prefer a dobyns 765cb glass.. Quote
jaredkelley6 Posted May 19, 2015 Author Posted May 19, 2015 Appreciate all the info guys! I'll probably go with a rod that i can at least get a feel for at my local bass pro. Really don't wanna order a rod through tackle warehouse and don't like the feel. Lol Quote
triwbass Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Im on budget too if i use my 7.5 ft kistler argon flippin stick to deep crank with its a little soft but works great ....just idea Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted May 20, 2015 Super User Posted May 20, 2015 The Halo 7'11" MH for $130 bucks, it's awesome. Light, sensitive, and nice parabolic bend. Best for cranks 1/2 an ounce or heavier. Quote

This is a good rod and I really liked it. It was light and launched cranks a good ways. Very good and the price is right. I'm using the Powell Diesel Glass right now and it does the job for all cranks very well but at 7' it leaves me wanting more length. I'm debating the Halo and the Glass rod from Phoenix.... Quote

Order a few pick what you like and send the rest back. Don't forget to consider Phenix. They make great glass and composite cranking rods. 1 Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted May 20, 2015 Super User Posted May 20, 2015 I have issues with very long rods, because they don't store well on my boat or in my fishing truck. I have found that the BPS Extreme 7'4" to be a decent compromise. The model # is ETR74MT. I bought my first one at $99 and many weeks later when the price dropped $20 I bought a couple more. I think that they have enough tip and flex to be decent deep diver rods and they have enough back bone to be decent square bill rods. They're readily available at BPS, so that is another thing to check while you're there. Quote
WPCfishing Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 I just bought one.. Best deal I've ever got on a Team Rod. http://www.americanlegacyfishing.com/lew-s-team-lews-hm85-million-graphite-casting-rods.html Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted May 21, 2015 Super User Posted May 21, 2015 If you want a pure glass rod the Phenix rods are the way to go, unless you want to spend extra for a Dobyns all glass. Quote
