I'm looking for some feedback from those of you who have a face/neck gaiter for sun (and wind) protection.  I'd like to be able to wear it over my nose when needed AND cover my neck (maybe up to the crown of my head the way most of the pros wear them.  I figure they know best about coverage for sun protection.   The gaiters all look pretty similar - is there one brand/item that has advantages over the others?  Thanks.

i have one of those mission cooling towels from lowes.  it works pretty good when wet helps me stay cool and its like 50 spf or something.  not sure how effective it is on wind.

It depends on what you want it for. The Buff keeps me warmer but really sucks in warmer weather. The Strike King gaiter is better for summer fishing.

This Saturday I tried one for the first time. It was the hoo rag that came in MTB a few months ago. I wasn't using it as much for sun protection but for mosquito and black fly protection. It was comfortable enough, except that it did indeed fog my glasses when I had it over the nose. For that reason I like the idea of the SIMMS posted above.

I have one from Cabela's Guidewear. It looks like a condom for your head and is really scratchy on the beard, but it gets the job done.

I've used many different kinds and they are generally all the same.

I am currently using SaltArmour brand gaiters and they are pretty nice. They have some pretty outrageous designs- mostly targeted to the motorcycle crowd I assume- but their more subdued ones are great and their prices simply cannot be beat anywhere. They regularly have 60%-75% off sales on their Facebook page.

You said you want the best, not necessarily the cheapest, so go Simms.  My experience in tropical fishing is that all of the wicking type ones will work fine and be comfortable even in the hottest weather, but the nostril holes on the Simms makes it the best.  Might take a little practice with any of them to get them to fit properly.

I use the Hoo

I like my Buff. The designs are endless and they can be worn any which way from full balaclava to just at the neck. If it's warmer this weekend I am going to try and soak it in my cooler's ice water and see how that does.

I have a Hoo Rag. I started wearing a boonie cover when I fish with it on, so I don't have to cover my nose. Like a few others have said, your glasses will fog if you do. That's my only complaint.

You could just a hole in the Hoo if it's that big of a deal. I wear mine different so i can't compa,in about it.

I have a Under armor one it's super thin but works fine spring-summer. Cold days in fall I go for a fleece alternative.

Thanks for the replies!  I'll let you know how it goes once I make a decision.

Use promo code SLAYER75 and get them for $5 here http://www.spgapparel.com/shop?category=Face%20Shields. I ordered two, but haven't came in yet, so I can't comment on the fit/quality. Nice selection of colors

That's a great deal right there.  I ordered the 5 pack and it was $24.25 shipped.

^^^^^^^ that link and Salt Armour are the same company. Don't know what's up with that, but I will vouch that its legit. I have 4 of them and they shipped quickly with no hassle and are great quality.
