The knot depends more on the line type, #test and your knot tying skills more than lure types.

Some anglers like to use a loop knot for some lures to improve the lures action without adding a clip.

I only use 3 knots for bass fishing; San Diego jam knot with FC line and mono with treble or spinnerbait lures, Palomar knot for mono line single hook or clips and Alberto knot for braid to leader knot. Whatever knot you use practice so you can tie correctly under fishing conditions, poor light, wind, rain, etc.

Palomar for most applications.  Trilene when a palomar cant easily be tied and a double uni to connect lines

What are your favourite knots for different baits and lures? And how does the knot improve the presentation?

I use only three line to lure knots: Improved clinch, Palomar, Rapala.

Only two times when presentation enters into my consideration: Rapala for topwater hardbaits that don't have a split ring; and palomar for drop shot with extra line pull-thru to get hook pointed up.  (I've read the snell knot/punching justifications and have considered it, but not used it.)

Otherwise, its palomar for braid and improved clinch for the rest.

I only use 4 knots. Improved Clinch for mono to lure and fluoro to lure. Palomar for braid to lure. Uni to Uni and Blood knot for connecting lines together.

Palomar for braid

SDJ for any floro/co poly

(Don't use mono)

UNi to uni for joining 2 lines.

None improves any presentation I throw.

They just hold

I only use braid and leader for bass, inshore and off shore ocean fishing.  The same knots are used where ever I fish, the species is irrelevant.

Braid to leader........alberto

Braid to swivel........double wrap improved clinch

Leader to swivel.....ordinary clinch

Leader to lure.........loopknot

SD jam for mono and fluoro, alberto for leader to braid. A loop (rapala) knot for rigging hooks on some soft swimbaits.

I use the trilene  almost all the time . The only time I dont is on a spinnerbait with a looped line tie.  They will loosen a trilene knot. Then I use a palomar .

Braid: Trilene or Palomar

FC: SD Jam, Trilene

Co-Poly: SD Jam, Trilene, Palomar

Leader: Seaguar, Albright (just learning this one)

Question, why the Rapala for topwater without split rings?

Rapala is the same as the 'loop knot' others mentioned above.  It allows better freedom of movement (than a knot pulled tight against the lure) on hard baits fished with some jerks or slack.

Loop knot mentioned on last post is very easy to tie, I've never had one fail, and as stated allows freedom of movement for the lure.  Great for flies as well for same reason.

I have always used a double uni for line to line, but I finally learned how I was screwing up the Alberto, which I prefer because it is much more compact.  In some line sizes, like 10 # flouro leader to 10 # braid, it can  easily go through micro guides.  The trick is that the tag end must go back through the loop in the same direction the main line comes in.  When you're done they will both be on the same side of the loop they go through.  Tied this way it is a great knot.  Tie it the other way, with the tag end going on the wrong side of the loop, and it will fail.

The double uni is bigger than the Alberto because it has 5 "layers" of the large diameter line while the Albero only has two.  Tied right both are reliable.

SD Jam for not braid. Uni for braid. My fat fingers hate cinching an Alberto with thin braid but I don't think there's anything strictly better.

Most of the time i only use 2 knots: Palomar&improved clinch.

uni-uni knot (line to leader)

shaw grigsby/JimmyHouston Knot (FC)

FG knot (line to leader)

I lost lots of expensive lures before settling on these 3 which covers most of my needs

San Diego Jam for lures. Line type doesn't matter.

Blood Knot or Uni to Uni for connecting lines. I rarely fish braid anymore since I started playing with the blood knot so it's easier to do a quick uni for a leader.
