Super User Master Bait'r Posted May 18, 2015 Super User Posted May 18, 2015 Got the call last night at dinner. The call nobody ever wants to get... My little brother was in a very bad motorcycle accident and was burned really badly over most of his body and he was being life-Flighted to Boston. I dropped everything and ran out the door. We've been in an ICU burn unit ever since and he made it through the night and surgeries but he is far from out of the woods. I'm not looking for anything from y'all except maybe a prayer and sorry for the emotion dump but I just need to let it out and tell someone just to get it off my chest. Seeing him all burnt up sent me for the biggest craziest loop and I'm having a really hard time keeping it together. I totally lost it just buying a coffee in the caf earlier and I'm just so terrified of losing him it straight up grips me like a vise at times and then it all just comes like a flood. I don't want to say anything on FB because I'm too scared to explain to his/my friends until we know more. So here I am. Venting. Praying. Counting each moment as a tiny victory to build upon. I know there is nothing I can do at this point but the massive sense of helplessness is as inescapable as it is crushing. Sometimes strangers are the best place to put something like that I guess. Dirty South Fishing Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Praying for your brother, you, and your family. I know that feeling my friend...it's a miserable feeling. But it's normal. As far as FB goes, I would ask for prayers for your brother and family. Ask them to please respect y'all's privacy during this time. Please keep us updated. Quote

gr8outdoorz Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 So sorry to hear about your brother! We are praying for your brother & family! Hope he has a speedy recovery! Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted May 19, 2015 Super User Posted May 19, 2015 Prayer & faith are your strongest allies. I had a brain injury from a fall 10 years ago where my wife & parents were told I'd likely have to be taught to walk, talk, and start over again. I went back to work at the FD 3 months & 2 days after accident. I also finished a Bachelors & Masters Degree since. Prayer & faith had EVERYTHING to do with it. You & your family are on my nightly list. If they took your brother to Boston Medical Center, he's in good hands. They saved my life & are one of the top trauma centers in the US. Quote

Super User Master Bait'r Posted May 19, 2015 Author Super User Posted May 19, 2015 Sincerest thanks to all. It's been a hell of a 24 hours. Long story short they have him stabilized and making steady incremental improvements but it is still a very scary situation. I'm finally back at home after a very long sleepless night and a ton of traffic. Thanks again for the kind words. Definitely an unimaginable situation but he is doing well considering the extent of his injuries. We have a big strong family and an even bigger community of friends and everyone is coming together around him for his recovery. Thankfully his cognitive function has been preserved and he is moving in the right direction as quickly as anyone could hope for. 3 Quote

Thankfully his cognitive function has been preserved and he is moving in the right direction as quickly as anyone could hope for. Unfortunately you folks will be going through that hell for a lot longer than 24 hours, and for that I hope you know that you'll always be able to use us as either a sounding board or simply a place to scream. I would guess that many of the members here have had a relative or friends who has suffered what will most likely be for your brother, a life changing injury. Beyond the purely physical recovery, he is going to need all of you to help him over the psychological hurdles that he is going to have to face in the weeks, months, and years to come. You can add me to the list that will offer prayers to all of you throughout this challenge. Keep us up to date, and know that this bunch suffers with you just as much as they want to celebrate a speedy recovery with you. Quote
