mrmacwvu1 Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 well mayb next best thing i have probably watched that a hundred times. It never gets old. I never was a horse a racing fan until I moved to Lexington Ky. I used to go to a bar after work where I met an elderly gentleman. He would stop in and drink a pint of beer and read the race forms. Turns out he was a deacon of the church. After many weeks of talking to him about racing and telling him that I have never seen the point of it. To me it was prehistoric nascar. Well the Keenland spring meet was coming up and he invited me to attend. So i just bet the exact same thing that he did.Well the first race was about to start so we walk to the rail. And they were off he remains calm explaining the positioning of the horses then on the back stretch this mild manner elderly deacon becomes someone else. He is screaming get up you son of run mother run. In my whole life I have never seen someone transform from an elderly deacon to a drunking cussing sailor. I knew if horse racing could make someone like this get excited that this was for me. I have loved it ever since. That and this man knew what he was doing. He had a job that paid over 100k a year and he told me that he has made more money every year betting horse racing then he did workiing. I just bet the same thing as he did and I can tell you that he was right. Although he always bet larger sums than me. 1 Quote

mrmacwvu1 Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 I still have many friends that live there. I might try to go down for some races this year. It is only about a four drive sadly I have not been back for a couple of years. I can honestly say that Keenland in the spring is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Quote

Back when, around 1988 we were visiting some friends who lived in Lexington, KY. We happened to be there when Keenland opened its season. My wife and I had never been to a horse race, so off we went. Had some Burgoo Stew, and took in all the sights. We weren't doing any betting, but one race had five entries so we each made a two dollar bet, Don and his wife, Marcia and me. We figured that one of us had to win. Wrong. The horse that none of us wagered on won the race. That was my first, and my last experience betting on a horse race. 1 Quote

halochef Posted May 28, 2015 Author Posted May 28, 2015 Belmont should be exciting - American Pharoah has a chance. he has a good chance 9/5 mayb even 3/2. but they dont call Belmont park the "Big Sandy" for nothing. Ca..Chrome had a good chance last year and just didnt finish. but after a rest has come back a won some other races. Big Brown thorough a shoe and then was caught inside early and could not make it up. one thing that happens, the colts pass the preakness to rest up for the belmont and a 5 week period may mature the horse a bit. Many are stating AP is a contender for the TC more so than the others in the past few years. one fellow has a poll started on "how low will one take AP in the odds" many have selected between 4-1 and 8-1. i'm at 5/2 halo Quote

He has the distance bloodlines. His father, Pioneer Of The Nile, had all of his wins at 1 1/16 mile or longer, including the Santa Anita Derby. His grandfather (P.O.N.'s father) is Empire Maker, who won the Belmont Stakes. But the mile and a half at Belmont is tough, especially when you have to face all those big, fresh horses who have been waiting for you, training only for the Belmont. 1 Quote

halochef Posted June 3, 2015 Author Posted June 3, 2015 a 62.50% chance of AP to win the Belmont. that is high as a the field size goes i think 3 have a chance to beat AP. a fellow named Rich Perloff has stated AP has no issues like BIG BROWN(meds) CA CHROME last year w/ the owner issues and i'LL HAVE ANOTHER trainer and injury issues. at those low odds i'll just watch....unless i view an overlay in the field. Swamp Gas Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Materiality is the only horse that scares me. I picked him to win the Derby. His Dosage Index is 2.33, the lowest of all the Belmont entries, while at 4.33 American Pharoah is the highest. (For those not familiar with DI, it is a number calculated from bloodlines to indicate whether a horse is genetically inclined for speed or stamina. The higher the number, the more a horse is suited for speed. The lower the number, the more a horse is suited for distance.) At Belmont (12 furlongs) it would appear that AP is at a disadvantage based on DI. Also, Materiality's trainer Todd Pletcher is no stranger to the winners circle at Belmont - he trained two of the last eight horses to wear the white carnations. 1 Quote
halochef Posted June 6, 2015 Author Posted June 6, 2015 the belmont! if AP wins it will b great for horse racing. some say its a dying sport. but just ask the 90.000 fans at BEL park today. OBTW BEL caped the crowd at 90,000. its a tough race for these horses that have run 3 in 5 weeks. not many race claimers 3 in 5 weeks. but baffert says AP looks good and has trained well. no issues, but its the "big sandy". #6 and #8 win bets.. a superfecta box 5-6-7-8. AP will b bet heavy. a lot of $2 win bets for souveniers Quote
