FishingBuds Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Well it has begun, this build is for my daughter, me and my son have been doing this one all week so far, would have posted pics as we built it but the camera has been with the wife untill tonight. so I picked out a pink IM6 medium mudhole blank with fuji alconite guides and a mudhole spilt grip handle kit featuring the American Tackle Aero soft touch spinning seat. I plan on doing a handle kit on my first few builds, I want to get comfortable on other things first before I shape a whole handle set up. I did do a few customize things on the handle kit still. I changed up and put a EVA grip behind the reelseat, I got it at 1 1/8, I should have stuck with the 1 inch, it kinda double humps a bit as you can see, but lesson learned. compared to the cork there's so much to say, cause you guys that told me how much I'll learn is true. I did find out I will be anal about a fore grip, I did adapt a eva tip on this one and my daughter loves it, I on the other hand have discovered that " I don't know what I want yet", I may leave the fore grip off on some of my own rods. Also I will need to go at least 1 1/8 round grips instead of the 1inch grips cause by the time I was done on customizing these I think they went down to 7/8 ;D but they fit my daughter's hand perfect(a mistake worked out just right) well its a start and I will be going to guide set up next, taking a break for now Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Looking Good! Think you have been bit by the building bug. I love those Aero grips as well. Think your daughter will like them. She will be proud of that rod. Way to go Dad! Please keep the pics coming to show us how its going. Quote
HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 What a great dad as well as a great gift! Quote
FishingBuds Posted January 24, 2009 Author Posted January 24, 2009 I'm excited, I went ahead and tried Marbliezing and it turned out great. I will be practicing this for sure. The over all finish epoxy is indeed a task, I had the most trouble out of everything on applying finish epoxy, this will diffently be practice makes perfect. The worst thing of it all was accidently touching the tacky epoxy, this is where I kept messing up, most of all blemishes are from this, and I was being carefull : so here's the pics, hope ya like'em, my Daughter loves it You can barely see it but I put her name on the rod and the year And a guide I will try and get better picks tomorrow, I was not getting good shots to justify the work > the Lighting was bad for some reason and when I would turn up the flash the darn thing would glare off the epoxy really bad so If I can get better picks I will replace these with them. wactha guys think??
