Wondering if any one is a bow hunter/ bow shooter. Recently purchased a brand new bowtech fuel as my first "real" bow (other than my pse spyder youth bow) I am decent with a bow and am trying to get lots of shooting time in during the summer before deer season starts. Could anyone give me any shooting tips? Thanks

Lol. Practice your form and use a kisser button if needed so you keep the same form. Aim small miss small. Once you start hunting deer, don't be afraid to aim 2 inches back from the shoulder... Beats the heck out of smacking the shoulder. Buy quality components.

Probably old school, but I learned instinctive before I bought sights.  Damon Howatt Hunter (Recurve).  That is a bow without cables and wheels. ;)

I agree with this. Don't use arrows that are to long either should be about 1/2" in front of your rest at full draw. Using to long of an arrow will sacrifice a lot of speed and penetration power.

Aim one section lower!

Let's edit this with some real advice.

1st - I'm not sure where you bought this new bow, but regardless, spend some quality time and a little cash to visit a good "bowtech" to make sure that the bow you are going to use is setup properly for you.  Same as your arrows.  Get the accessories you need such as a quality release, peep sight, etc., etc..

2nd - Spend the time to get some hands on lessons from a pro to make sure you are lining everything up correctly, are consistently hitting your anchor point, and the myriad of other things that make you as accurate as possible.  It is far easier to start shooting correctly than it is to break bad habits at the start of the process.

3rd - Start home practice at short ranges until you can consistently score bulls eyes and only then move out to the next farthest range.  Shooting at 15 yards may seem too close, but even Chris Kyle didn't start out shooting at a 1,000 yards!

4th - If you are going to be hunting from a tree stand, practice from the height before hunting season begins.

5th - When hunting season arrives, known your own limitations and live within it.  If you can't make a 45 yard kill shot, DO NOT attempt it just because the buck of a lifetime is standing that far away.

Thank yiu guys very much for the advice. I bought the bow from a family friends gun and archery shop, he and his tech helped me fit my arrrows, work on my form, recommended different products etc etc. he has a "3d" shooting machine with a projector that you can shoot at all different kinds of animals with. They gave deer, elk things like that, but they put thing like snakes and caterpillars for the really hard shot. And gardnerjigman I already have a kisser button hehe

Good deal. Now just practice. I can tell you that I used to go out after work an shoot 120 times every night.

When you are starting out, knocking the fletchings or robin hooding an arrow seems cool, and it is by all accounts, but a day will come where you aim in a different spot every shot so you don't do that. Lol.

It was states above, and I can't stress it enough, take a comfortable, ethical shot once you start hunting. That means if you hit spot on every time at 35 yards but only 50% of the time at 50 yards, don't take the 50 year shot. It's hard as heck, but being a bowhunter is 100% patience and trust me buddy, it gets tested A LOT! Had kansas Booner 32 yards out for 6 minutes and never had a clean, ethical shot because of tree limbs, brush, and his stance. It happens

Practice is great...as long as you are practicing properly.

I second the earlier suggestion to spend some cash and take some lessons

from a professional instructor.

REPEATABLE FORM is everything.

good luck.

Lund nailed it

And you think bass fisherman are brand crazy?

Wait till see the archery crowd...silly

Lastly dont become an "elitist" and hate all other forms of hunting like so.many of the hardcore archery guys

I love my bow but i still love my rifles too!

I always used to do pushups and run in place between sets to get my heartrate up

trust me when a big buck walks under your stand your heart will be popping out of your chest

then focus on controlling your breathing

I always shoot with both eyes as well

also you dont have to shoot 70lbs

remember it is much harder to pull a bow back after you have been sitting in a stand for 5 hours in 20 degree weather
