Bass Fishing Magazines

I'm looking for a new magazine subsciption.  My subscription to Bass Magazine (FLW) just expired.  I was happy with it for a while but it seems like they are talking about tournaments and the pros way too much for my taste.  I like the cool tips and tricks rather than 8 pages of what won the last tournament. 

 

What bass magazine should I go with next?

Fishing magazines are going the way of our local newspapers. Into oblivion. There is so much information on the net (especially on this site) that it's almost a waste of time to read it in hard print.

I love Bassmaster myself, but I agree with Crestliner. Oh, and Outdoor Life and Field and Stream are great outdoor magazines, if not solely about fishing.

 When my Bassmaster mangazine subscription ends (some time this summer) I'm not renewing.  I was going to sign up again to In-Fisherman but thinking about it, I might not sigh up for any.  I'm tired of the pushing of the big boats, two thousand dollar sonars, etc.. in all the fishing magazines.   Internet videos have definitely surpassed monthly magazines.

I always enjoyed In-Fisherman.  It's been a while, but hopefully they still have the same great info and tips they did 10 years ago or so.

Even though they are a multi-species magazine, they usually had great bass articles.

 

I agree about Bass Magazine...too tournament oriented for me.  It would be nice if there was a magazine dedicated to amateur anglers who aren't particularly wealthy.

I love In-Fisherman. They do push products a bit, but it is still an informative, entertaining magazine.

The most interesting to me is Midwest Outdoors. I also get Bassmaster, B.A.S.S. Times and In-Fisherman. I get the most use out of this forum and youtube tho really.  Midwest Outdoors is like a newspaper and the May issue had 3 sections totaling 100 pages. It is not just bass fishing, but it's regional information that is interesting/useful to me.

I have a subscription to Bassmaster and FLW and they both end in September. Not renewing either of them. All about fishing in the South and in the West...I get more info from YouTube and this site.. Those mags are a waste of money imo.. The last few issues I have received, I haven't even read.. no time too..

 I've been thinking about subscribing to Midwest Outdoors but every issue I buy I always come way with the same thought - this magazine/newspaper is all about Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Haven't bought a magazine about fishing since 2000.. Even then it was becoming ridiculous, that said 80's era in-fisherman was the best "book magazine" I ever read! Bassmaster was great too!

There's something about having hard copies that I enjoy.  I have a stack of old In-Fisherman magazines and others that I like to revisit from time to time.

Makes for good reading on a rainy day.  I also used to cut out the illustrations of various rigs and techniques to put in my little fishing notebook

 

But basically the written word has become the typed word (internet) which is great...certainly more info on the net than in any magazine...but I still like to have books and magazines for reference when I get tired of staring at the computer screen.

I like having hard copies too and would like to find a magazine subscription, but I just don't like these magazines that focus on tourneys or selling products.  Staring at the computer too long hurts my eyes.

I like having hard copies as well. I was subscribed to Bassmaster and In-Fisherman, and I really liked them both. I just didn't have the time to read them and fell behind, the magazines started piling up so I cancelled my subscription. I think you'd like either one of them. Keep in mind of course, that In-Fisherman has articles on other species of fish. Bassmaster may have some stuff about the pros like an article about one pro in particular or something like that. But it is much more focused on talking about actually fishing than talking about tournaments like the magazine you mentioned.

Advertisement's in magazines are what keep it going ... just like this site.  Magazines have their place ... just like this site does.  There's lots of good ones

I don't know o if they are still around but I like bassin. Used to buy it from the racks at the supermarket from time to time. I think it gave alot more tip articles. Product reviews.

I like InFisherman . Its not about just about bass fishing its about fishing. I even read the articles about species that I  have never fished for.  

 

I subscribed to BassMaster for 40 years and did not renew my subscription this time. It adopted the Maxum magazine format [ minus the girls ] . I hated  the " Day on the Lake" articles where the  Pros fished a new lake.    They go to these private lakes that the general public has no access too .  They need to send these  " pros " to public lakes , that would be a good article .

I've wondered if "Day on the Lake" would work if they modified it to have a pro fish a home lake of a B.A.S.S. member, with that member going along.  The articles could be about how the amateur has fished the lake in the past and how the pro gives new eyes to him in regards to locations, lure choices, etc.  I think the results would be a mixture of either the pro teaching the B.A.S.S. member a bit about his home lake or the pro struggling and learning some local secrets from the amateur.

I don't like any. They're all an infomercial for boats, line, rods, etc. with less content every year. Some rags don't put out 12 issues a year anymore. When you subscribe, they always unload a couple back issues with outdated information. If you collect 2-3 years, you'll have all the articles they would recycle seasonally for a decade. Only the technology and some new rigs change. Seasonal patterns do not. To me, there's nothing in them worth paying for.
