livemusic Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Say you put on insect repellent or sunscreen. Do you think just plain old water is okay for washing hands or is plain soap needed to remove odors or has something else been found to work best? Both of those products smell so human, lol. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted May 15, 2015 Super User Posted May 15, 2015 I just wipe them off with lake water . I am picky on being quiet and invisible but I dont pay any attention to my hand odor . Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted May 15, 2015 Super User Posted May 15, 2015 My wife keeps the house stocked with Target's Method Anti-B liquid soap. It seems to do the trick. I'm not joking. I'll go outside and spray with SPF 1million and come inside and wash hands. Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted May 15, 2015 Super User Posted May 15, 2015 At any given time my hands will have:sunscreen, diesel fuel, gasoline, grease, various oils (motor, hydraulic, gear,etc...),cow manure, dirt, and god knows what else....I catch fish just fine. 5 Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 15, 2015 Super User Posted May 15, 2015 I have used Colgate white tooth paste for decades to clean my hands while fishing and rinse in lake water. Preventing the transfer of attractants, oils, fuel, fish slim etc from my hands to my rod handles is the reason I keep my hands clean. Tom Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted May 15, 2015 Super User Posted May 15, 2015 At any given time my hands will have:sunscreen, diesel fuel, gasoline, grease, various oils (motor, hydraulic, gear,etc...),cow manure, dirt, and god knows what else....I catch fish just fine. Same here. When I get home if I want the smell of the day gone, washing in mustard, rinsing and then regular soap works perfect. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted May 15, 2015 Super User Posted May 15, 2015 It does sometimes seem like fishing gets better as soon as you get the stink of one fish on you or get the skunk off, so to speak. Quote

gunsndrums1 Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Hunters shampoo - scent less and actually cleans well I use various brands and things like that all the time for hunting Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted May 15, 2015 Super User Posted May 15, 2015 I agree with ww2farmer. Worrying about what smell your hands have to a fish is the very least of the problems you have to overcome while fishing. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted May 15, 2015 Super User Posted May 15, 2015 I keep a hand towel on board. That's about it really.. Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 16, 2015 Super User Posted May 16, 2015 Why Colgate white, lol? Try it! Quote
kcdinkerz Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 I just wash my hands in the lake water or restroom if available. Just dab some scent on your bait you should be good. I smoke tobacco and scents like megastrike procure really helps or at least I believe that it does Quote
Super User FishTank Posted May 16, 2015 Super User Posted May 16, 2015 If I put on sunscreen or bug repellent, I just leave it as is. To remove the fish smell, I use lemon juice and lemon peels. Quote
joeblowwwww Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 I put dirt or sand on my hands and then rinse it in the lake.... a little primitive but it works great. Quote

Best thing in the world for cleaning your hands after doing mechanic work - SAE 30 HD motor oil & then GO-JO! Quote

Smokinal Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 I keep a ziplock bag with baking soda in it and wash my hands after I launch and before I touch a plastic. I don't worry about it with hardbaits but I'm a little anal about my plastics... Quote
paulmandude Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 After reading this topic, I think I'm gonna keep all natural/biodegradable soap on the boat Quote
RB 77 Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 I always have a little bottle of hand sanitizer in my tool bag/ tackle bag for scent/ sun screen removal and to clean up before lunch! I put dirt or sand on my hands and then rinse it in the lake.... a little primitive but it works great. This "primitive" method can work quite well in a pinch. BTW, I love the user name and avatar! Super User scaleface Posted May 17, 2015 Super User Posted May 17, 2015 I do keep a bar of ivory soap in my truck ,and in my misc bag that I take in boats. Ivory soap floats . Quote
wytstang Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 I could careless about any smell on my hand but I do keep a bottle of Peroxide to clean my hands to eat what ever meal I brought with me. Although I may start bring rubbing alcohol instead as it dries instantly. Quote
