Crankenstein Crony Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 I have several of the orange Quantum Catalyst bait casters and I think the drag washers need to be replaced. Even with the drag tightened down completely, I can't stop a baby blue gill. I can't find drag washers for these reels. Didn't find anything on Ebay, and can't even order them through Quantum... Wondering if anyone can get me pointed in the right direction. Quote
BASSPATROL247 Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 not sure what the washer material is but if they are not catalyst pt's you can buy carbon fiber material and make them yourself and upgrade the drag washers, just trace your old ones onto the carbon and cut them out. they don't have to fit perfectly into the main/drive gear, just get them as close to perfect as you can and as long as the pressure washer fits into the gear it works fine, ive done this to several of my reels and the drags are a lot smoother. I cant remember where I got the carbon fiber but if I do I will post it for you.. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 If the reel has the thick ceramic or whatever they are drag washers there is no Carbontex match. Are you running braid? If so, did you use a backing? If not the braid is undoubtedly slipping on the spool. The other things to check are the spring washers. They should be installed (). They can be easily replaced to as they can lose tension over time especially if you run the drag cranked down. Make sure the whole drag stack is intact by checking a schematic for missing washers etc. The next thing is to be sure the drag washers are free from grease and oil. These steps should bring the drag back to life. If you'd like to send it in I'll go through the whole thing. Quote
Crankenstein Crony Posted May 15, 2015 Author Posted May 15, 2015 No, Im not running braid. They have fluoro on them. The reels Im having trouble with are reels I've used on my jig rods and I've done a lot of flipping with them also. I've had the reels for probably 5 or 6 years and I use them a lot. I just kinda figured they were a little wore out and needed some new innards to make the drag work right again. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Cleaning and changing the spring washers should take of it. Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 15, 2015 Super User Posted May 15, 2015 One mistake anglers make with reel drags is they leave them tightened down when they put the reel away at the end of the day. When you are done with the reel, back off the drag force, this will save those drag washers preventing from taking a set. Tom Quote
