Smokinal Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 ...I shouldn't ask but what's next? Last year I had to have about 3/8" cut off the end of my clavicle. This year, I am tearing my tricep tendon off the elbow. This Tuesday, 19th, I go in for a 2 hr surgery where they will complete tearing the tendon off the bone, drill a hole through the end of my bone in the elbow, cut back the beat up end of tendon, slide the new clean end through the drilled hole, then tie a knot in it on the other side of the hole. lol, sounds like something I would rig up to fix my kids brake cable on his bike. I half expect to find the incision closed with duct tape. I've done some research and this is a common method of reattaching it although it sounds a little sketchy to me. Oh well, it is what it is. Kinda bummed about losing the summer of fishing but it's gotta be done at some point. Might as well be now. I'm going out this Sunday for one last hoorah! Quote

Super User bigbill Posted May 15, 2015 Super User Posted May 15, 2015 Hang in there, First it was two knee operations, about two years ago it was prostate cancer. It's in remission. Now it's spinal stenosis it's arthritis really bad in my lower back I can hardly walk. No fishing again. But I'm going to bring a chair and help. We all seem to make a pit stop during our lives. I wish someone told me this when I was younger the years just flew by. Having cancer it could ravage my body but it can't touch my soul. They said (Einstein) that our bodies are vessels to get us to the next life. When I get a new body can I have a sport model? LOL God bless, bill The highlights of my life now is watching my 4yo grandson ride the dirt bike grandpa bought for him. 1 Quote
Cgrinder Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 I'll be sendin' good thoughts your way. I'm in a similar boat, pinching just about every nerve I can find. Luckily right now I just have to deal with physical therapists and their sharp, bony fingers in my skull a few times a week. Summer fishing is overrated though. Maybe we'll all be good for Fall, eh? 1 Quote

Thornback Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 You'll do fine after surgery. Good luck. Because I have arthritic shoulders and hands I switched from repeated casting to fishing with wild shiners. It's more fun, I catch more and larger bass, and I'm not wore out after a fishing trip. Sometimes we have to keep adjusting our activities as the body slowly wears out. 1 Quote

shanksmare Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Happy to hear that your surgery went well. Be sure to attack your physical therapy with vigor. My younger brother has had rotator cuff surgeries on both shoulders in the past 3 years. He has a great physical therapist and he always does more reps and sets of the exercises. It is key in his quick recovery, Both times he was able to play ice hockey within 3 months of the surgery (he's 59). He was working (light duty) within days of the surgery. Good luck with your rehab. You should be back to normal by deer hunting season. If you hunt north of Eustis, maybe my brother and I will see you in the woods. 1 Quote

Glad your surgery went well! Being one armed sucks! I had a successful elbow surgery last Tuesday myself. They had to remove the bottom half of one of the tendons since it was shredded. I sure hope you have a speedy recovery!! 1 Quote

Man I hear ya on doing too much! Like you, I have a hard time sitting idle. Being my dominant arm is the one operated on, it's been hard to not use it. The wife has been putting her foot down about that lately...and I've been listening 1 Quote
papajoe222 Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 Welcome to the onset of old age. I've had five hand surgeries, one shoulder, one elbow and I need to get the other shoulder done soon. It'd be more if they made replacements parts like backs. It could be worse, we could have lived in a time where there were no surgeries to correct those things. 1 Quote
Smokinal Posted May 31, 2015 Author Posted May 31, 2015 Doing much better now. I had the cast removed, the 17 staples out: Cleaned up a bit and now Im in this brace for the next 4 weeks. It has stoppers to limit the angle I can bend. Its set at 90 degrees for 2 weeks, then I can adjust it to 100 for a week, then 110 for the last week. Then it comes off and I should be able to start PT. My wife thinks Im crazy but I think I can reel like this... 1 Quote
