So say Brady does get suspended and is out the first 4 games.  Garapolo or whatever his name in comes in and goes 3-1 or 4-0 does that hurt Brady even more and label him as a system QB?  I mean Cassel went 11-5 when Brady was out and then if they go 3-1 that puts them at 14-6 without brady.....sounds like a system QB to me....

Sounds like he should get a 1 year ban. This is a bunch of bull only 4 games.

You're better than this...

Cassel also took an abysmal KC team to an AFC West title 2 years after his NE run.

Current allegations aside, Brady is a very, very talented NFL QB. Calling him a system QB is silly.

Look what Brady did with an entire squad of rookies when Gronk, Vereen, Amendola, the other RB i can't remember, and somebody else where all hurt a couple years ago.

With big Jim at the helm I don't seem them beating PIT, BUF, or DAL. I see them beating JAX after starting off 0-2. Blount is also suspened for 2? games which leaves them even thinner.

Seems unlikely he gets a ban with his new lawyer team anyway and, unfortunately, as of now, there is no real "proof" he did anything that we know of.

Great QB's elevate the players around them and Brady does not do that, Belichick does.  So I guess the same thing can be said about Brady.  Belichick is a great coach that elevates his ability on the field.  They both use each other to win.  It is a great player/coach tandem.

The thing that makes New England as good as they are (one could say besides the cheating here), is they always have personnel that are ready to step up and make not only a play but a difference at any given point in the game.  Not many teams have that.  They whole organization has the "anything to win attitude",  whether that means playing your best, finding a way to win or being prepared to make a difference.  This can make a player either selfless or over confident. The problem is that when the Patriots do all the three fore mentioned things, it seems that cheating is part of the normal way to accomplish all them.

Brady will be back at the helm whether the Pats win or lose.  I'm not so sure Brady will win on appeal, I wouldn't rule out being modified to suspended with pay but probably not.  The suspension has as much to do with the failure to cooperate as the actual act. "But not only does Brady have to fight off the notion that he was generally aware of what probably happened, he also has to prove that he didn’t impede the investigation. NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations Troy Vincent said in a letter to Brady that “refusing to produce any relevant electronic evidence” and “providing testimony that … was not plausible and contradicted by other evidence” played a role in the penalty." Brady's suspension is not only personal but it's penalty against the team.  It's difficult to believe staff members not in the hierachy are solely responsible.

An appeal In court all witnesses would be under oath, that could be dangerous.  It's a civil matter where it's the preponderance of evidence, things do not have to be totally proved.  What does it cost Brady or the Pats to go to court, his legal team isn't cheap, dollars and cents he may not be much ahead by winning, although he would clear his name.  I don't think he will win, accept the penalty and move on.

I am not saying Brady isn't a good QB because he is but the system that he is being utilized in has to play a large role if the backups can come in and perform not only well, but very good.  And Cassell did win one AFC west title in 4 years and they weren't an abysmal team, more of an abysmal division really.

A GM and head coach who shape a 'system' that isn't complementary to their QB (and other playmakers) wouldn't last very long in the league.  Why wouldn't coaching staff and starting QB coach the back-ups to be successful in the same system as the starter?

What IS a system QB?  And if the QB/team is successful, what difference does it make?

I for one have a hard time believing that this issue is still being debated, much less that it has resulted in fines and suspensions. This is simply silly, stupid, juvenile, petty, arbitrary; you pick the adjective of your choice, I no longer want to think about it.

What's next? The entire team fined and suspended for wearing the wrong #$@%ing socks?

I disagree.  Coaches pick QBs and players who fit their system for the most part.  now in the case of Brady he was an afterthought but the system they run is pretty much the same. And of course they want the backup to be successful but there is a reason they are the backup in the first place so when they come in and do as well as the starter doesn't that devalue the actual player and have more emphasis on the system they are using?

Now we don't know if it will work or not but Philly is a prime example.  Kelly got rid of what everyone thought was the key to the eagles offense after his first season and scored more points the next season.  This year he got rid of Foles for another QB that he likes and traded the team's top rusher and signed a back who fits the offense a bit better.  Nobody knows if it will work or not but seems like it is the system and then the coaches get the players to fit in the system.

You can get fined for uniform violations and many players do every week.  I think to get suspended though you have to do something pretty crazy in that realm.  Lots of big money in what brand apparel a player can wear on the field, everything has to be NFL approved.

Brady is one of, if not, the best QB's of all time. Different generation from Montanna and others on that short list so I am not getting into that debate. Needless to say, Brady will be back at the helm when he returns regardless of how Garrapollo does. This will be a good test, with some good teams for the back-up and I think he will flourish. Bellicheck will create a game-plan and provide the personnell for him to excel- similar to the Cassell year. Kid has great stuff so I see him doing well. However, a 4 game sample size is not going to be enough to displace a first ballot HOF who shows no signs of slowing down, despite his age.

All of us here in Boston are staying behind our QB- the report did not convince me, and we look forward to the appeal process. Go Pats!

BTW, Brandon Marshall from the Bears was suspended $15k for wearing orange cleats in 2013.

What happens if this guy comes in and plays great? Suddenly Brady is not worth so much. Belicheat loves to go with younger players??

The report was convincing to me but that isn't really what I am talking about here.  Belicheat and Brady have a good thing going but it has to raise the question if it is more Brady or Belicheat and I lean towards the latter given the backup seems to perform just as well.

I rest my case. It appears there is nothing too trivial that won't get somebody's panties in a wad.

It's just a kids's game for Pete's sake.

I love how Josh Gordon gets a year for drinking with some friends, when none of them knew he couldn't drink nor did he. Brady cheats in a game and may not get anything. Has full knowledge of it along with this being planned out the whole season. And not to mention the Patriots are already known for cheating.

Baseball, about as fun to watch as golf, or grass growing, paint drying. Loved playing as a kid, can't watch a game on TV tho

In order to be able to watch and enjoy baseball, you need to understand and appreciate the cognitive aspect. It's a brain game through and through, which is why it's losing popularity in the U.S. Not many people understand or care to understand baseballs details which make up the whole competition. People see baseball as "hit ball with stick", so when guys aren't smashing 450 ft home runs every at-bat, they get bored. Baseball is far from simple, and understanding it certainly requires another level of thinking than other sports.

I agree.

In the early 70's I sat next to Reggie Jackson @ Tiger stadium, he was with Oakland and they were coming in for a series the next day.

Reggie walked around the section with a wad of money in his hand making bets.  Things like what kind of pitch will be thrown, if the batter gets a hit and what kind or even striking out, as well as fielding plays.  If anyone ever had doubt whether baseball is a game of thought and strategy, Reggie proved to me it is.

Everybody in the stands loved him, I have never seen a super star of his stature that was so outgoing with the public.  Reggie, pretty cool dude.
