juicebass Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Hey guys. This is mt first post. I have a black max baitcast. It was working fine for a few weeks. But now the tension spool is having problems. I cant adjust my tension spool so the lure will drop fast enough, therefore making my cast not go far at all. My magnetic breaks are off. And drag is set normal. And the lure drops slowly when thumb is off the line and the reel is engaged to cast. Any fix for this? Thanks Quote
Brnnoser6983 Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Do you store your reel with the breaks on and tension tightened? It might be a problem of the disc sticking to each other. Other problems might be bearings are going, or even dirt in the spool. Clean it out. If you do take it apart... and I can not stress this enough TAKE PICTURES. I didn't and ended up taking apart another Abu Garcia just to match the disc. Grease and oil, damp rag. Quote
Brnnoser6983 Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Worse case Abu will let you send it in, but a good local bait shop might give it a once over for free if you ask. Gl Quote
juicebass Posted May 14, 2015 Author Posted May 14, 2015 Thanks for the reply BENN. Im going to try a few things with the reel before i send it in or open it up for greasing. i store it with the breaks and tension left from however i was using it for fishing thay day.. is that okay? Should i set it to a different setting? I had also played with the pin a bit... maybe that might have something to do with it? when i get home this afternoon I'm goin g to try and fix this issue... Super User the reel ess Posted May 16, 2015 Super User Posted May 16, 2015 I can't tell from your description what the actual problem is. If your problem is the cast control won't tighten enough, in the cast control knob, there can be a brass button that is what you are screwing down against the spool to make tension. If your reel is this type, you can take the brass button out and flip it. If it's this type, the button is held in by a C clip. I ordered a replacement once to discover the button could be reversed and use the other side. Hope this is helpful. Quote

Delaware Valley Tackle Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 There's something besides the spool tension cap going on. Either the line is dug in, wrapped around a guide or stuck in the spool. Quote
