lectricbassman Posted June 17, 2015 Author Posted June 17, 2015 Nice catches vma! Im digging the frog bite right now too. I fish primarily from shore as i dont own a boat. Thanks for the reports, hopefully this tropical storm doesnt shut the bite down too much Quote
vmabuck Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Spavinaw has been slow for the most part. I have not heard of anyone killing it. In fact, my frog action is probably the best on the lake at the moment for largemouth. Â Seems a lot of people are out for cat and crappie on Spavinaw though. I am there to get bigger and badder largemouth for the most part but I have found the cat action to be kind of good on the creek. They really like mayfly patterns on the fly roid as well. I just nymph near the bottom with some size 8-10 patterns and generally pull a few on the creek. But not since the floods though. Seems Hudson is not releasing so the creek is still really backed up. Spavinaw lake levels are good though. Â My plan is to get to Ft. Gibson lake soon and Eufaula as well. Need some experience at both those places, and Grand Lake of course. Quote
vmabuck Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Does anyone have any info on who I need to get in touch with to find some local tournaments in the Tulsa/NE area? Â I live on Spavinaw lake just below Grand and only a few miles from Hudson. I am sure there has to be some small local monthly tourneys right? Quote

I am sure there has to be some small local monthly tourneys right? vam       NIce catches on Spavinaw... For some odd reason I sturggle on that lake bad lol. I fish in the OPMBA ( Oklahoma pro mini boat association) it all electric motors. But we fish all over the NE Oklahoma. There is web site you can check out or check them out on facebook.  But we were going to be fishing Grand on the 26th night tournament. But with all this rain we have been getting I think they will be switching it to Pumpback lake ( over by Hudson Lake electric motor boat only) or Eucha Lake.  You are not going to get rich in this league but it is a lot of fun and gets you out on a lot of different lakes. PM if you are interested I can give you more details on the league.  But as far as any reports from I haven't been able to get out to lakes. Going to try to get on pumpback lake this weekend maybe. I will let you all know if I do.  Good Luck to everybody and happy fathers day to all the dads. Quote
vmabuck Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I sent you a mesage. Â I am interested in that I just don't have an all electric boat. Quote
lectricbassman Posted June 19, 2015 Author Posted June 19, 2015 Im jealous of all this tourney talk, anyone in okc area know of anything like this Quote
vmabuck Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 So that rain the other day brought the levels up again. Â How do the fish react to that? It seems the bank fishing slowed waaaaay down. Coming from the fly fishing world, if a stream rises and gets a little off color it usually turns the fish off. Also, when storms are coming in it will turn those fish off as well. I know fast changing barometric pressure affects trout. Been on a stream way to many times when a storm came rolling over the mountains and the bite stops almost immediately. Â Not sure how lake bass react to this. I have heard that the fishing can be insanely good as a storm is coming in. Â Mainly though, how do bass react to rising levels in the lakes? Or do they? Quote
lectricbassman Posted June 21, 2015 Author Posted June 21, 2015 I primarily fish ponds so i dont know about lakes. In experience though, rising water can slow the bite. On the other hand i have found rising waters to increase the bite. One thing to consider is the fish usually hunker down tight to cover during these times. This means theyre not moving around or chasing baits. It also means that a spot you could reach from the bank before may not be accesible because of higher water. Water clarity is another factor. When the water gets murky i use it to my advantage. Look for spots where there is clear water and murky water and fish that line. There is usually current flowing at this point and the bass use this as an ambush point, waiting for the food to come to them. One final thought, your weekend warriors and white bucket fishermen arent that dedicated to the sport so rain and crappy conditions keep them away, meaning less pressure and more water for you to fish. I get excited when i see overcast drizzly days for this reason alone! Quote

that possum Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Some of the best topwater action I experience is during and right after a summer storm. Quote
that possum Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Any kayak fisherman on here? I recently bought a Native Slayer propel. I fish so many small lakes that don't have boat ramps or allow gas motors. It opened up a whole world of unpressured lakes. Before I just used a float tube but I can cover a lot more shoreline with the kayak. Quote
lectricbassman Posted June 28, 2015 Author Posted June 28, 2015 Went to prague city lake this morning and had a rough day. Caught 1 small bass and a crappie, my friend caught 2 bluegill. We threw everything at them! The water was pretty dirty from the rain plus a storm rolled through last night. There was also a kayak tournament going on. Talking to them, it was a hard day to be on the water for any fisherman. Oh well, cant win them all and i kept the skunk away Quote
Niggiman Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Broken Bow, Oklahoma here. Â I only fish on Lower Mountain Fork River. Â I want to go to Glover River so badly right now. Â I don't use what works most of the time. Â I always gotta try new stuff out, Â but what has work for me the most are Rooster Tails. Â I put on Rooster Tails when I don't feel creative enough to try something else. Quote
wnspain Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Went to Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge yesterday evening. Water temp (surface) was 89 so fished where shade was already on the water. Was throwing a fluke, good success until the sun got real low. Discovered the thermocline was at 8 - 9 feet so went out deeper to the weed edge. That was the ticket, couldn't keep them off my hook, caught 15 -20 between the time the sun went down and dark.  Just 3 or 4 decent fish, the rest were all dinks. aka approx 1lb. Quote
lectricbassman Posted July 3, 2015 Author Posted July 3, 2015 Went out to the pond this morning, it poured last night so i wasnt expecting much. The water was very high and tea colored or muddy. Once the sun came up the frog bite was on! I stopped counting but i caught between 12 and 15, smallest a pound and largest just under 3. Im loving the summer more and more as less people show up to fish, just me and one other person out there morning. 2 Quote
BassThumbAddict Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Been fishing Purcell Lake alot lately. I've been having a ton of luck on my bluegill swimjig from siebert. Also catching them on the Cavitron buzzbait right before the sun goes down. Quote

that possum Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 I am newly in the market for a kayak. I want to be able to get to less pressured spots. How high are the lakes down there? Depends on the lake. The big lakes are pretty high. The smaller lakes that have a spillway never really got high..or if they did they ran off pretty quick. Quote

A good friend just bought a house in purcell but he doesnt know much about the lake. Quote

Shore for now, but there are plenty of good bank fishing spots down there. I had a buddy catch a 6#er about two weeks ago. Tell him I drive a beige Chevy. If he sees me down there tell him to stop and talk.  Quote
that possum Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Who's fishing where this weekend? I'm gonna put in at Clayton Lake and see if I can pull any hogs out. Quote
lectricbassman Posted July 12, 2015 Author Posted July 12, 2015 Who's fishing where this weekend? I'm gonna put in at Clayton Lake and see if I can pull any hogs out. Fished a pond here in okc and caught one on a topwater frog. For the last few weeks i havent been able to really find a pattern. What has been working for everyone else? Quote
that possum Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 I caught 2 on topwater today at clayton lake. Both around 2#. Then I switched to a jig with a trailer and caught a few off the bottom next to the weedlines. By the time it got hot, I switched to a senko and a 10" black worm and was still catching fish. I threw a chrome one knocker on my way back to the ramp but never had a hit. By 2pm all the ice in my gallon water jug had melted and I was drinking hot water and ready to come in. Quote
wnspain Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 Been fishing in the evenings. Zoom Ol' Monster on the outside weedline. Quote
Buckhunter2323 Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Plan on getting out to Grand this weekend. Anyone been out there since the water levels been so high? I will be trying to put in around the Disney area. I have a Tourney there the 24th. Haven't fished Grand all year.  Took 6th last tourney would have been third if we didn't have a nice 3.2 smally die on us in the live well. But it happens... Tasted pretty good lol. Caught the smally on a small rattle trap also had a 5 lb large caught him on brush hog carolina rigged.  Any info for Grand would be awesome. Quote
