jwalton Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 I'm a really new bass fisherman, if you want to call me that right now lol, I'm in Tulsa and could use any help I can get to learn what I am doing wrong. Also I do 100% from the bank and have a fluker spincast real and 6ft rod, I am going to be getting a baitcast setup for Christmas and was wondering what would be the ideal setup for a single rod that I can do top water, cranks, texas rig, so on and so on that way I don't have to carry multiple rods and reels. Thanx in advance. Quote
wnspain Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 Welcome to forums!! I won't comment on your present setup, rather I will try to answer your question. The most versatile setup I know of is a quality m/mh rod with a decent quality spinning "reel". If a baitcaster is what you're set on, a quality setup will run more and provide the ability to throw heavier baits accurately. Quote

My first decent setup was a pflueger president with a medium fast action rod. Still use it all the time even though i lve made the transition to baitcasters. Quote

Agreed, there's nothing wrong with a spinning setup for most finesse applications. I have a few bass fishing friends that are totally baitcaster only types and they struggle with finesse techniques because of it. The spincast is a true beginners tool IMO. Quote
Coach B Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 Any one in the Northeast area, that fishes Grand Lake or the rivers that run through it, in need of a fishing partner? I do not have a boat but I make for a good co-angler. I am pretty new to the area and looking for someone who fishes regularly to fish with. I do have permissions to fish a few good private ponds, but I am looking for more locations and didn't know if anyone else is looking a fishing partner. Quote

Thanx in advance. Experience is worth more than your equipment. What I mean is, get out there and fish, don't worry about buying the most expensive rig. A bait caster would be a good thing to learn how to use. You can get the Abu Garcia Black Max rod and reel combo from walmart for around 80-90 dollars. It's certainly not the best rig but will be a good learning tool. It can certainly be used for all the applications you are wanting. I would also suggest to keep using the spinning rig as well for finesse approach like has already been mentioned. I always have a spinning rig with me and have caught two over 5# this year on it while 3 bait casters were sitting in the boat! I just prefer it for flipping lighter soft plastics. Enjoy! Quote
Savagefishing91 Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 I live around the Blanchard area. I've been mainly pond fishing. In the evening top water is kinda finicky. A little luck on a shakey head with a cabin creek buoy worm. My best luck was with a big mouth bite cane thumper in watermelon red on a 4/0 swim bait hook or a keitech swing impact in a bluegill flash type color. Haven't been in about 3 days though. This cooler weather might've shut em down. I plan on goin tomorrow so I'll keep you posted. Quote

Im in the oklahoma city area and primarily fish small ponds in the area from shore. Because of the recent round of storms the bite has been slow. I am finding a lot of success with small poppers even though the water is high and muddy. Im looking forward to some more stable weather patterns but it looks like it may be awhile. Hey man just moved to OKC looking for some people to fish with. I have boat ready to go! 3 Quote

geneoh Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Hey crew, I'm going to be in OKC purchasing a boat in the coming weeks. Im from MN so I'm not from the area. I've scheduled my trip so I get about a day and half of fishing. In my research, I've found lake konawa and arbuckle to be my best options that are relatively close to OKC. Would you guys that are familiar with the lakes agree or should I look into another lake? Do you prefer one over the other in the winter time? 1 Quote

Arbuckle on the other hand has some big fish in it! If youre comfortable fishing offshore you could possibly catch some monsters right now. 2 Quote
Okiefisher29 Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Off work on Monday 2/20, anyone want to go fishing in the norman area? Quote
