lectricbassman Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Hey guys i wanted to start something new. I dont know why but it seems like oklahoma doesnt get a lot of attention here on B.R. If you are from and fish in oklahoma chime in on this thread! Where do you fish, when, and whats working right now? 1 Quote
lectricbassman Posted May 13, 2015 Author Posted May 13, 2015 Since I started it ill go first. Im in the oklahoma city area and primarily fish small ponds in the area from shore. Because of the recent round of storms the bite has been slow. I am finding a lot of success with small poppers even though the water is high and muddy. Im looking forward to some more stable weather patterns but it looks like it may be awhile. 1 Quote
lectricbassman Posted May 16, 2015 Author Posted May 16, 2015 I know youre out there ok bassers, where are you? I went out this morning. It was windy and the water has cleared up quite a bit. Storms coming in this afternoon. The bite was slow and all my fish came on a texas rigged zman stick bait. Buzzbaits and topwater poppers were not working and neither were flukes. Quote
Bladesmith, Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 I fish mostly ponds locally this year and Lake Eufaula (Elm Creek area) fairly often. Pond bite has been good (all full and some flooding) on smaller single blade spinner baits, square bill crank baits. Eufaula has been spotty, water higher than usual and muddy with brush flooded. Larger spinnerbaits with single blade in black or black and yellow. Fire tiger and yellow sided medium running Bomber model "A"s are what I've been using mostly. Black jigs with craw trailers in gravel or rocky areas. I'll use soft plastics pretty soon as the water clears. I sure haven't damaged the fish population in the lake this year (I release or transfer to my own pond what I catch) but I have caught a few nice bass from lake. I think I'll branch out and spend some time in other areas this year as time allows. Really want to go down to Sardis this summer....we'll see. Quote
BassnChris Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Haven't made it out much this year due to baseball. And when I do have time.....it won't stop stormin'.......no rainin'......stormin'. I like the idea you have here and will try to contribute as soon as I can get out. Quote
lectricbassman Posted May 23, 2015 Author Posted May 23, 2015 I was finally able to make it out for a couple of hours today. Between 10-12 the drizzle let up and the bite was ON! I landed 6 total, all came on a z man zinkerz t-rigged. I expected the fish to be deep because of all the storms and rain but I was wrong. All of the fish came in about 1-2 foot of water and one was on a weed line in 6 inches of water!! I agree BassnChris, all this weather has made it difficult to get out and when I do its a crapshoot as to what the fish are doing! Im glad to get the rain but im ready for some more stable weather, heres to hoping it calms down a bit in june. Quote
lectricbassman Posted May 27, 2015 Author Posted May 27, 2015 Im going to keep this going! Took a friend out to my usual hole Monday morning. We were hoping to catch a topwater bite but the wind kept this from happening. The water was very muddy so we thought spinner baits but they weren't happening either. T-rigged lizards and zinkerz saved the day though and we managed to pull out 6 in about 3 hours of fishing. It was good to fish with my buddy and neither of us got skunked, overall a good day. Something that Ive noticed is that these bass seem pretty aggressive and very healthy considering all the crazy weather patterns here. I was sure the bite would shut down but this has not been the case.  Hopefully they'll stay this way into the summer months when the weather calms down. Quote
wnspain Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Here's one from Lake Elmer Thomas, 4.2 lbs on Memorial Day. Quote
lectricbassman Posted May 27, 2015 Author Posted May 27, 2015 Nice fish! Good to see some water down in that part of the state. Quote
BassnChris Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Here was my favorite ramp on Gibson....top of the ramp is out by the light pole.....come up another 6.5' since that pic. Next week supposed to have a run of dryer days.........at least that's the forecast. But remember.....this is OK. 1 Quote
lectricbassman Posted June 2, 2015 Author Posted June 2, 2015 went out twice this weekend, saturday morning and sunday night. Saturday morning was cold and windy. I managed 4 and my uncle who hasnt fished in years also caught 4, overall it was a slow but great day. Sunday night was the night. I landed my unverifiable personal best! I tried to measure it but between the dark, bad camera, and excitement i was only able to take rough measurements. I know by feel alone that it was the biggest I have ever caught. The BR length/girth calculator says 4.44 lbs so ill go with that but i know it was bigger! Lesson learned, I went home and immediately ordered a scale! All the fish this weekend came on a strike king zero worm, watermelon color t-rigged. Buckhunter2323 Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 lectricbassman Awesome idea on getting some reports here is Oklahoma. Â I fished Claremore Lake and Spavinaw Lake over the weekend. Claremore Lake was real real dirty but we were able to land a few small bass on spinners. Â Spavinaw Lake the bite was real slow... real slow were only able to land one on top water black frog in the shallows. Â I do have a fishing tournament there this weekend I will fill you all in on how we do. Quote
lectricbassman Posted June 3, 2015 Author Posted June 3, 2015 Thanks for the report, good luck with the tourney! Quote
lectricbassman Posted June 6, 2015 Author Posted June 6, 2015 Got to go to a new hole this morning. Fish were hot on frogs but i missed every one due to me being inexperienced with a baitcaster. Luckily i knew to throw a follow up bait wheb they missed and i ended up landing 6 total. I also got a scale since my last trip, biggest fish today was 2.25 lbs. Its funny how much smaller the bass get when you put them on a scale! Im just going to work on catching bigger fish. Quote
Buckhunter2323 Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 lectricbassman hey 2.25 isn't a bad fish at all. But it is funny that always seem smaller when you put a scale on them. But everyonce in awhile you get one that looks like it is going to be small but weights a lot more then you thought lol. Â Â Well the tournament on Spavinaw didn't go to good for us. We caught fish but nothing to brag about. Caught one off of a green crank bait med diver. A couple small off of a pb&j jig with green pumpkin tail. But we always have a tough time on Spavinaw Lake but i guess you can't win them all. Â On to the next one I will be fishing Grand Lake in the next tournament up at Bernice Park. If any one has been fishing Grand any help would be great. I haven't been on Grand yet this year. Quote
lectricbassman Posted June 13, 2015 Author Posted June 13, 2015 Made it out this morning expecting the skunk since we had the storms last night. Im glad i went, it was one of the best days ive had all year. The usually clear water was stained, i found the fish along lines where the muddy water met the stained water. Frogs, flukes, and sk zero worms. The smallest was just over 1lb, lots of 2 and 3lbs, and the biggest went 4.2. Quote
wnspain Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 Thanks for the report! . Â All shallow? Â Going to try to make it out this afternoon / evening, will post report. Quote
lectricbassman Posted June 14, 2015 Author Posted June 14, 2015 Yes all shallow, the big one was in about a foot of water. It helped that we had alot of cloud cover yesterday, looks like today is going to be similar! Quote
wnspain Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Nothing to report today. For the first time this year, skunked! A couple of hits shallow, but not sure about it being bass. I obviously haven't figured out the post spawn/early summer pattern here. May take some time but that's one resource I do have. Quote

Where are you fishing and what were you using? Quote
wnspain Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Elmer Thomas, was using finesse and trick worms, senkos, flukes, spinnerbait, swimbait, crankbait, you name it. Tried shallow, med depth ledges, weedlines, etc. Â Â Quote
vmabuck Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 I am a transplant from NM. I moved to Spavinaw NE ok Tulsa just south of Grand Lake dam. I have been fishing primarily spavinaw lake a lot and the creek below. I have managed to learn quite a bit about largemouth fishing since I have moved and have been getting some good catches. Before I moved here I was all fly fishing for western trout. Did that most of my life and I was a guide for a few years before I left NM. Â I gotta fish! I have checked out the tailwater below Tenkiller and it is some decent trout fishing. But right now, I think I have done enough trout fishing and I am 100% focused on this largemouth scene. Love the equipment, already have a few specialized baitcast setups for specific rigs. My favorite so far would be the heavy action rod with 50# braid fishing weedless frogs over the mats on spavinaw! Crazy hits! Â I also have access to a private section of water below the state park here. It used to be an old set of cabins. The new owner is fencing it off, cleaning it up, and making it into a private camp/fish area. I have that section pegged for sure. Caught one of my biggest largemouth on that section. Â If you get up this way holler and we can go out. I have a 16' cajun and would welcome any knowledge in this bass fishing world for sure. I do kind of like fishing the banks though. I walk them a few nights a week just throwing weedless stuff basically waiting to see any rises. Once I see one, I cast through and run over it and 90% of the time it is a hit. Fun stuff. Reminds me of those guys chasing permit on the beaches with a fly rod. Â My next plan for fly fishing is to hit the lower Illinios with my new 8wt and latch on to some of those striper I hear so much about. Can't wait for that! Â Here are some Spavinaw area catches...
