smr_hga Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Ok so I fish in a little pond in my neighborhood and all I can catch there are Bluegill and Largemouth Bass. However I keep hearing that there are Smallmouth Bass in there but I have caught lots of bass there and they're all Largemouth. So I was wondering where they could be hiding and what lure they take. I commonly use bucktail jigs and poppers there and I'd imagine I'd catch some smallmouth by now. The most common theory to me is that since there is a smaller lake in my community as well as the one I fish in that they are stocked down there and largemouth are in the one I fish in. So my question is where are the Smallmouth and how do I catch them? Quote
Mccallister25 Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Zero experience with smallmouth, so Im not much help to your question but I will add that if people around your area are like the kids around me; any dink LM is a smallmouth.. Can't tell you how many Instagram photos Iv seen from people holding a 10" LM boasting on their "first smallmouth of the day". Could just be people who fish in said pond don't know the difference. 2 Quote

But the thing is the people who say this own the houses on the lake and they are probably informed what is stocked there by the people who stock it themselves. Quote

smr_hga Posted May 12, 2015 Author Posted May 12, 2015 Lol probably so. I've heard they are cold water fish but they can be in the same water largemouth are in. But trout are also cold water and there are no trout down here so that is probably the answer. Thanks guys! Quote
hatrix Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Maybe they are mysterious. There are perch in my mothers lake but I have only ever seen 3 with 2 caught by me and 1 on a creek chub. That is out of thousands of fish caught. 1 Quote
