bass raider Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Hey guys got a new rod friday and have been LOVING it .Here's a mini review of it. Its a duckett micro magic 7' hvy. and out of all the rods I've tried it is my favorite jig pitching rod i've used so far.The epoxy work is a little sloppy on the first guide but other than that the buld quality is excellent. The sensitivity is good, not quite as good as my tatula but it is very close. It balances just as good as my powell endurance and feels a little lighter.I put one of my reels on it to fish it but now theres a rod at my house that doesnt have a reel on it and thats not acceptable. Lol. So I'm looking for a reel for my duckett. Heres the three I was deciding between, a shimano curado l, a daiwa lexa(not going to consider the tatula for several reasons,doesn't palm well for me being the main one),or a BPS Johnny Morris signature series going to be using it for jig fishing and frog fishing with braid mostly. Diggy Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 I have the same rod and it feels good with the curado I on it, that was the 1st reel I tested out on the rod. The curados are so low in price right now, that would be my choice of the 3. Quote

It seems to make a lot of noise and vibration on the cast and the side plate cant be closed when the spool tension nob is tightened down which was a deal breaker for me. I don't know why a huge corporation like Shimano would release a reel that has an issue like that... Quote

Theangler1 Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 I just got that rod and love it! I have It paired up with a Lews team lite. I can fish a weightless Texas rigged worm on it. The reel is crazy smooth and gets very few backlashes. Incrediblly light reel as well Quote

They're unbelievable reels, especially for the price right now. Just a stupid deal at $130. Quote

I had my first 2 days after release, I have 3 now & sold one a few weeks back.. They are excellent reels.. Quote

They are excellent reels.. My Curado I was not a keeper at all. It was difficult to tune. I found the button/latch that releases the side plate to be clumsy and poorly thought out. My Curado I also made that high pitched spool whine on about every third cast. In my opinion, it is not even as nice as the Curado G. People had sad faces about the G because it was shaped like the Caenan, but I'll tell you what: My two Caenans that I keep on loaner rods and under the seat of my truck have a bunch of hours on them and many 5+ lbs bass under their belts. No, I'm not saying that the $90 Caenan is better than the $130 Curado I...but I am saying that the Citica G is. And the Curado G definetly is. The Shimano boys panicked when the Curado G lost market share because of cosmetic issues, which was a huge mistake. All they had to do was drop the price on it a smidge and all would have been well. ***To answer the OP's question: I suggest a Lew's or a new Chronarch E. Quote
