OperationEagle Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Full moon this weekend and weather looks ideal here in MN. Quote
MidwestF1sh Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 Had a good day yesterday. Sun up to sun down I was catching them on mille lacs. Not the avg. Size I was hoping for but got some right around 20" and a lot in the teens and smaller. Its nice to see the 12-14" bass up there as well for the future. Early morning I had a few waves coming over the front of the boat but later in the day it got calm. Quote
OperationEagle Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 It was tough going for me yesterday. No bass. One tiger muskie. 45incher. Landing it in a kayak w no steel leader was a thrill.  Was at Steiger Lake today. Started slow then heated up towards noon. Found them in the lily pads. A 20 incher and several 15-17. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted August 31, 2015 Super User Posted August 31, 2015 I was up north and got nothing but dinks, both days, no matter where or what I fished. Â Worst weekend I've had in a long time, was getting ticked off! Â Quote
mnbassman23 Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Fished for 3 hours on Saturday for the first time in 2 weeks. Caught 3 and lost 2. Biggest one went over 5lbs. Â Quote
sean55337 Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 I think local south metro lakes are picking up, caught many 2-3 lbs in couple hours. https://goo.gl/photos/faZzJ1N4BmVWCSEA9 Quote
Jc Lee Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 I'm newbie. Started this summer. When does fall feed up usually start? Quote
punch Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 I've been out a couple times this week in the north metro. The water was 79 on Monday night and dropped to 74 yesterday. Monday was awful fishing! The lake I was on was hammered with pleasure boat traffic, nothing was biting. I only boated two fish.  Last night after the storm front I figured the topwater bite would be on like donkey kong. I went out on the lake, it was calm, no boats, dusk... nothing was biting. I tossed the kitchen sink at them. I did manage to boat 3 fish but it was hard. Only thing that got strikes was a popper.  The bite is stingy for me up in the north metro right now, i'm ready for the fall feed to kick in! It should be soon with water temps droping fast. Quote
OperationEagle Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 There are over 11,842 lakes in MN but only 2,727 in Missouri...  Yet the KC area fishing reports thread is 384 pages compared to our 6 pages... WHAT GIVES? 2 Quote

I'd guess that's why! haha  I'm going out tonight in the north metro. Not confident on a specific presentation because of my last two trips being ehhhh. I tied on a white/silver swim jig with a paddle tail, white/silver spinner, wacky senko, x-rap prop, and a squarebill. SOMETHING's gotta work. Quote

I tied on a white/silver swim jig with a paddle tail, white/silver spinner, wacky senko, x-rap prop, and a squarebill. SOMETHING's gotta work.  Punch! OK yep you got me there. Looking at their history it took about a year or more to get beyond six pages. So from that scale we aren't doing so shabby.  OTOH since the start of this thread the KC area thread amassed 38 pages of comments....and...compared to 2006, the interweb and threads like these are so much more a part of our social fabric.  Add to that Minnesota has the highest fishing license sales per capita in the US (MN and MO population are very close in size so no population size advantage for MO).  Those reasons led me to think that this thread should be much more populated than it is. Anyways...thankful for those few contributors as I love learning from others.  Was out on SAT and SUN in the southern metro. Slow go for me. Closest pattern I could find was to target clumps of weeds that were hovering over 5-10 ft of water.  Used a texas rigged brush hog. Only caught a few with nothing of great size. punch Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 I only got action last night on a spinnerbait (white w/ gold blades). I caught a really nice 30" pike, and a few smaller bass. Seem's were in a bit of a downswing, I havn't had great luck in the last two weeks in the north metro.. on lakes that were actually pretty hot all spring and into summer. The water temp was down to 70. Hurry up fall bite!  Square bill, xrap prop, sexy frog, xrap, DT4, and the swim jig AND buzzbait didn't get a single bite. It was a bit too windy for me to toss bottom contact stuff.  Ah well, just keep at it. Fall bite's gotta kick in sooner or later. Quote
MidwestF1sh Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I think that means we just have to post more. I like how punch gives us a report every time he fishes, we should all do that. Last time I was out was last Sunday and it was pretty chilly out. Caught a ton of decent bass fishing docks. The nicer fish were way up under docks and pontoons. Had a nice pike go after a bass I had on, took the bass off the hook, picked up a spinnerbait and that cast the pike hammered it. I guess he was ready to put on the feed bag. 1 Quote
MidwestF1sh Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Punch any chance those reports are coming from your favorite lake? Quote
punch Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Punch any chance those reports are coming from your favorite lake? Â A few yeah, I cycle between Crooked, George, and Coon mostly. I'm going to hit crooked tonight. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted September 20, 2015 Super User Posted September 20, 2015 I was up north again last weekend. Â This weekend I'm staying off the water. Â Next week I'm going back up north Wednesday after work and will return home Saturday night. Â We have been getting drilled by cold fronts every 2 or 3 days. Â Fishing really clear water post front is always tough and it was last weekend too. Â I caught some dink LM and a few decent smallies last weekend on drop shot and that was it for me. Â No big bites. Â Lots of good fish are going to come from shallow cover now. Â There is a lot of bait moving real shallow with this cooler weather. Â Quote
OperationEagle Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Was on the water both SAT and SUN (Today). Beautiful day on SAT only to yield one northern. It was a nice size northern but I prefer not to catch them. It hit on a sweet beaver in about 10-12 FOW.  Tried everything on sat (incl a lipless near weeds and square bill)...saw them on the finder but couldn't get them to bite.  Today was quite a bit different. Found them both shallow and deep. Caught about 10 today with 4 measuring 16-18.  Shallow bass hit a weighted texas rigged pumpkin baby brush hog. Deep (16FOW) one was picked off using a 3/8 jig w dark blue craw trailer. sean55337 Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Â I am planning to attend a few fishing/sportman shows this winter because I heard you can usually find great deals on rods and reels (looking for a Legend Extreme and Shimano Curado I) For those that attend them, is this true or I am just better off waiting for sale at Cabelas/Gander Mountain, etc... How many are there in the twin cities? I only heard of the Sportmem's show in ST Paul. Quote

I got myself some poles for 50% off and reels about 35% off. Can't wait til this next one 1 Quote
spoolinx Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 I just got into bass fishing this year, always fished as kid, but got busy with life, wife, and kids. I finally have time to get back into it and came across this forum. Nice to see a page that helps other fellow fishermen get on fish, but I know most will keep some secret spots to themselves. Â Anyways, the Fall bite is ON!! Â Sounds like Punch and I must live in the same area, since I seem to hit the same lakes to kill time. I'm still hunting for my 5+ lbs. Out to N&S Center tomorrow, Hopefully they are hungry Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted October 3, 2015 Super User Posted October 3, 2015 N/S Center kicked out a 7.2 lb'er in the Frankies Pro Team event back in August.  Lots of good fish in those Chisago area lakes and E/W Rush too. 1 Quote
OperationEagle Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 My deep jig fishing skills remains in the frustration zone. I number of strikes but couldn't land one today from the jig. They were on the finder at around 19-22 feet....all bunched up.  Fished weeds in about 8-10 fow and struck gold. Look for those weeds and drop a lure down in an opening. Will head out again in the morn.  Also tried a Rapala DT10 to see if I could get any strikes to no avail. Anyone else having luck? Quote
MidwestF1sh Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Got out at sunrise on mille lacs and it was cold and windy! Couldn't get to my first spot but I hit three other areas and two produced good fish. Endend up with 4 5lbers but 1 got off right by the boat so only landed three. Had my trolling motor on 100 and still couldn't even hold in the waves so I burnt through the battery's in a hurry. Wave after wave rolling though the boat. It was rough but well worth it! Quote
MidwestF1sh Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 I kinda gave up on largemouth for the year after tournaments were done. Just curious what did it take to win that two day Frankie's tourney? Heck of a payday for the guys who won. Quote
