Hello,

I have read that DEET will repel bass down to 1ppm.  This makes sense, but is it true?

How about citronella?  I have some bracelets that smell like citronella and are supposed to repel mosquitoes.

What do you guys use?  Since I read the bass/DEET study mid-2013, my catches have gone way up from my teen years and even earlier that year.

Regards,

Josh

I have been very concerned about using sunscreen / skeeter repellent. Especially the latter. Bullfrog brand is a combo of both, which I use. I try to wash my hands, but...

I even looked a mosquito net hat thing yesterday.

Some also believe that color can scare or make a difference in not catching a bass. Shmucks.

Don't touch your firearms or watch crystal either as far as bass? They get " high, high, high " lol..

I use a Thermacell, just turn it on and clip it to the back of my belt and forget about it. I personally hate having bug spray on is the only reason I tried it and it works great for me.

I have sprayed OFF insect repellent with DEET directly on Flukes to test the myth. It is a myth.

Same with sunscreen, used Coppertone Sport sunscreen 50 SPF-that is a myth also. Worked as good as some well known "fish attractants".

Use Permethrin spray on your clothing. Works very well for chigger and tick repellant as it is actually an insecticide that kills them. Works well for bank fishing. I also use Ben's 100% DEET lotion (not the spray) to repel mosquitoes. I put a drop on the back of my hands and smear it around. I do the same for my neck region.

Tried the belt clip repellents. For me they do not work that great. Especially if there is any kind of a breeze.

x3 on the thermocell.

I always wondered about breathing what the thermocell puts out???

Effects on bass?

Well, all I can say is, any of the bass Ive ever sprayed never had 'skeeter bites on them.

Can't be worse than wearing 100% DEET carcinogen all over your body.

No, but it could be just as bad.

The military grade D.E.E.T was considerably stronger than civilian grade.. 8 to 10% on average. Like I said, it will mar a weapon or crystal , phone screen etc.. Works to keep insects away... Mostly.. It's a poison

Swap out bug spray for good ole listerine it will repel any bug especially ticks and redbugs(chiggers) and mosquitoes and bass don't seem to mind

I've reached the same conclusion Wayne  (Few things are more powerful than urban legend)

I use the Permethrin stuff, works great. I also use normal ole' Off or Cutter spray.....I don't really see any decrease in catches with it. I'm sure if you sprayed senkos or something you might see a difference, but it could be just me. Like Tom said, just don't spray it on your lures. :)
