I have a silver (may be referred to as "gun metal blue") Abu Ambassadeur reel with a seat number of 730401. It has a "High Speed" sticker on the handle side and a brake knob on the right. At first I thought it was an old 5500C but that number shows up as a 5000 on the Abu website. Can someone please tell me which model I have so I can replace a few parts?

Thanks,

Hello,

The Ambassadeur 5000 and 5500 (and the "c" versions of these models) use the same body, color aside.  The 5000 has 3.8:1 gears and the 5500 has 4.7:1 gears.

You are describing a "c" (bearing) version of the 5500 made in 1973.  If it has a thinner or smaller diameter spool, though, it could be a 4500, 3500, 2500, 1500, etc.  (As you get smaller than the 4500, my knowledge progressively runs out.)

Look on the left-hand (non-handle) side of the reel.  It should have a model number, like 5000, 5500, etc, below the tension knob.

Regards,

Does the frame have red inner plates? If not, then it's a 5500C. There are no Hi-speed 5000's of that era.just scrool the schematics and look for 5500c 79-08-04.pdf and click on the link. You'll find all the part numbers you'll need for replacement parts. The only difference between your reel, and reels made after 1975 is the star drag wheel, and the spool pinion gear. Parts are available, and upgrading parts from newer reels are compatible with your reel ( think dual bearing cog wheels, dual bearing worm gears.
