Matthew2000 Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Any body have this rod? I'm digging the Winn grips on it. How is the blank sensitivty wise ? I'm looking at the 7'2" MH X-fast. Lemme know what you think about this rod. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted May 10, 2015 Super User Posted May 10, 2015 I have a couple of the ZX rods and they are hard to beat for the cost. Sensitivity is great in my opinion, probably on the level of a Shimano Compre or even a little better. I have the 6'9" jerkbait/topwater and 7'3" frog. I used the 6'9" rod last fall for dragging tubes for smallies and liked it so much I bought the frog rod. I'm thinking about trying one of the spinning rods next. Quote
offsidewing Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 I own a couple, casting and spinning, and really like them. They receive positive reviews and they aren't typical store brand cap. Dunno how they'll hold up as they've only been out a couple seasons, but Cabela's warranty is great. Quote
Grantman83 Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Own the jig and topwater...best grips and crazy sensitive for the price... The topwater is too stiff for its specified application IMO bbbbbbut it makes a great spinnerbaits, chatterbait and plastics Rod.. Quote

And is the jig and worm really capable of going to 3/16 ounce ? Quote
long island basser Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 I have the exact rod your looking at and I do recommend it. I bought mine on sale for 69 bucks ( home run) , even at 99 this is still well worth it IMO. It is light and sensitive as others have said. The grips are awesome ( my new favorite) and very comfortable for all day use. I use it mainly for jigs but have thrown spinnerbaits, buzz baits, and hollow body frogs with success. The lightest weight I've thrown with this rod is 3/8 and I think a true 3/16 oz lure would be to light to get any rod load. Quote
Paulasaurus Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 I have the 7'2" mh/xfast jig rod and fished it for the first time over the weekend. i bought the ZX to replace my 7'1" MH *** Black. I loved the *** but it broke and it was replaced with a 7'1" H so I needed a new jig/plastics rod. I got the ZX around Christmas for $69 and felt it was a steal for how it felt in store. Blank felt very similar to the previous *** actually. The only thing that worried me was the lure weight rating. The *** went to an ounce while the ZX is only rated to 5/8 ounce. After this past weekend I can't see a reason not to add more of these rods to my arsenal. It has a slightly faster tip than my *** did and a touch less backbone but I'd say the sensitivity is equal. I had no problem getting fish up off the bottom and back to the boat. The grip felt very comfortable and felt great for the 5 hours I spent using it. I have it paired with a Curado 201i hg. At $69 I'd choose it over the ***. At full price I'd have to lean toward the ***. Quote
punch Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 I have two ZX rods. I have the jerk/topwtaer and the crankbait. I really really like the crankbait rod, but the Jury is still out on the jerk/topwater as I haven't had enough time with it yet. These rods are pretty killer when you get them on sale, they are light, look good, have nice guides, AND the grips are way cool. They seem to go on sale pretty frequently, so keep your eye out. Quote
robster80 Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 ive got the frog rod and love it. its light and feels great in hands with those winn grips. been debating on trying the topwater rod or the spinnerbait model Quote
punch Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 ive got the frog rod and love it. its light and feels great in hands with those winn grips. been debating on trying the topwater rod or the spinnerbait model I took my new Topwater rod out this week a few times and tied on a spook with some co-polymer and it performed REALLY well. The rod felt a little stiff for a topwater but I was easily able to walk the dog and get some hook sets on a few fish. Quote
EricDkk Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 I have two. Love them. But BPS new white Carbonlite is more lighter on hand. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted May 15, 2015 Super User Posted May 15, 2015 They seem to go on sale pretty frequently, so keep your eye out. They did, but I'm guessing they might not for awhile yet. They are very popular (for good reason) and it's bass season everywhere now so if they go on sale again before August I'll be surprised. They are still a good buy at $99!! Quote

Dunno how they'll hold up as they've only been out a couple seasons, but Cabela's warranty is great ZX is a good rod for the money ($69) when on sale! Have the 7'1" Crankbait / Moderate...No complaints! The warranty on their rods are now just 1 year! I have one of their XML which use to be lifetime on that rod now (1 year) but you can purchase an extended warranty through Cabelas, I think it's a 1 or 2 year for additional cost! No questions ask! JLeon77 Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 I have 2 casting rods and a spinning rod. Great rods for the price when they are on sale, or when they are not! Quote
