I bought one of the walking frogs the other week. Only fished with it a few times so far. Im pretty good at walking spooks, frogs, etc but this thing just doesnt want to cooperate. I like the lure, and would love to fish with it more but the lack of correct walking action makes it hard. Does anyone else have this problem? any way to correct it?

Are you using braid?

Na, Iv tried both mono and fluoro. I kinda thought about braid working a lot better with zero stretch, but don't want to commit a whole rig to that one lure. I don't use braid for anything.

I can't think of one frog that will walk on mono or fluoro lol, at least, not very well. I've tried it. Braid is a necessity.

Get some 50# braid and jerk it on slack line just like with a spook but with a shorter range of motion. Short jerks with just a flick of the wrist. Spooks are more forgiving with your range of motion. Frogs, not so much. Pull too far and the frog won't walk. It will just move forward. With a little practice, you'll be walking that thing blazing fast in no time.

For  braid set up try the Berkley Lightning Rod Shock. If you don't like braid you're only in it for like $50. I bought a used one for 25 bones for my first braid outfit and love it.

I use LT frogs but the hollow body variety. As far as the walking frog, its the user's technique that usually needs refinement. When walking a bait with braid, using less wrist action will allow the bait move easier. A steady soft cadence is what's needed to get the walking motion you are looking for.

I went through this process also and discovered braid is the key and very short jerks on slack line works best. Once the frog starts walking correctly I make small downward jerks on a slack line, wrist motion is like your Drawing a V with your rod tip alternating left right .....I'm not a fan of braid either but now I have a dedicated frog rod / reel with this setup. If you wanna fish a jig or big worm on this just tie on about 3-5 floro leader and then your good to go.

Good luck!

Lt walk-in frog isn't gonna walk like a spook cause it likes the head up position which causes resistance to a glide.. If u want a wide walk you need a spook

Try to order a spare spool for your reel.   Spool it with braid, and swap it out with your other spool as needed.
