Mobydick Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I am just getting ready to mix up some more of my homemade scent, I use it more for masking human odors. I got out an a bottle of new stuff I am experimenting with that I mixed up about 2 months ago that has been sitting ever scince. I opened it and WOW....does it smell like italian dressing. It didn't smell anything like that 2 months ago....now I want to put it on my salad. I am gonna experiment this afternoon and see if I can come up with some new mixes to try! Does anyone else make their own scents? Ian Quote
zbass Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I just started tinkering with this just this fall. What do you use for the base? Quote

zbass Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Interesting, I use worm oil from Lure Craft. Mix it with concentrated scent oils of whatever flavor you want. The garlic I did will knock your socks off. Quote

spinners Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I USE COD LIVER OIL FOR THE BASE AND GARLIC,ETC Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted January 8, 2009 Super User Posted January 8, 2009 I use mineral oil - it has no odor, it's just a base for whatever I put in, which is garlic or anise. Quote
zbass Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 I have always been told that mineral oil over time will react with the soft plastic baits and turn them hard. Is that not true. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted January 9, 2009 Super User Posted January 9, 2009 I mix petroleum jelly with garlic powder and salt. Smear it on a bait and it will last all day. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted January 9, 2009 Super User Posted January 9, 2009 I got two....i have no idea if they work...I was going to do this over cabin fever, but still ain't got around to either of them. My home made sauce has produced good results. Over the last year, it has worked as good or better than any commercial sauce I've tried. (I tried six different brands & flavors.)4 Cups Distilled Water (no chlorine smell / taste) 2 Tablespoons Garlic Powder 1 Tablespoon Anise Extract 2 Tablespoons Sea Salt 8 Liquid Capsules (Wal-Mart Pharmacy Fish-Oil Capsules) (Just carefully clip the ends of the capsules with fingernail clippers or side-cuts, then squeeze the oil into the mix. The capsule shells will Not dissolve in the mix...only in your digestive fluids I guess!) 1/2 cup Vodka (This helps break down the fish oil so's it'll mix better with the water, but you still need to shake it before spraying on your lure. You can see the oil broken down into tiny particles or droplets, but it won't completely dissolve into the mixture. When you shake it, the droplets "suspend" in the mix and are picked up into the sprayer tube.) Set the mixture in the direct sunlight for a day, strain it through a clean rag or coffee filter-to get the garlic powder out - squeezing each time to get all the garlic juice out - and use a clean spray bottle to carry / use. PS - More Vodka might help break down the oil better, but the cost gets so high if you use very much, you're better off just buying the commercial stuff. All other "alcohols" I found are "scented", I went with CHEAP Vodka because it's pretty much scent and flavor free and works pretty well. Let me know how it works for you...post it here. 2 Tablespoon Garlic Paste (found in the pasta aisle)1 Teaspoon Garlic Salt 2 Tablespoon Kosher Salt 4 Tablespoon Fish Sauce (Found in most asian markets) 1/4 Cup Mineral Oil 1 Teaspoon Anise extract Quote
Captain Obvious Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 I don't do scent but strike king does do coffee baits maybe that's the easiest scent to do. Good for man and fish Quote
