FLAWLS1 Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 I recently got a G. Loomis Pro Blue Spinning Rod as a gift and I need help setting it up. What reel and line? Specs on the rod are, 8ft, fast action, 12-25 line weight. Looking to fish for Stripers or whatever I can with this rod. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted May 9, 2015 Super User Posted May 9, 2015 A shimano sustain 3000 or 4000 (might be to big). Great reel. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted May 9, 2015 Super User Posted May 9, 2015 Bigger Pflueger president, and save the money for lures. For line, I really don't think you can beat Stren Original or Suffix Elite. Quote
CRANKENSTIEN Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Yes on president. A 20 lb braid would cast great. I use a double uni for a leader of you want one. Quote

Super User new2BC4bass Posted May 10, 2015 Super User Posted May 10, 2015 A gentleman on this forum who fishes almost every day of the year....and fishes fresh and salt water....has stated that his Pfluegers are the only reels that haven't been sent in for some kind of repair. That includes several Shimanos. It will be rather hard to find a better reel for your money. I'd go with 15# or 20# braid. Not only will it keep line twist to a minimum...provided you don't tie direct to lures that cause a lot of line twist...but will give you a lot of line on a smaller spool. Unless you like big and heavy reels. Quote
