Ok People, Out With It!

This is for everybody, who has been out, what have you caught, and with what lures or bait, presentation ect. Water temps? Weeds? Depths,  just wondered whats going on elsewhere. Everything I have caught this year has been shallow, all but 1 on inline spinners, 1 on a jig, all LMB but 1 smallmouth and a few bluegill. Water temps in Mid East Indiana 62-64.

Fish seem to be following traditional patterns here, which doesn't always happen every year! 

 

Right at ice out they were hitting jerkbaits, just like they should. 

Then the water started to warm a little and they pre-spawn feeding. Shakey heads, spinner baits, cranks, jerkbaits, just about anything that looked like food

Now they are on the beds, just moved up 3 days ago. Males are sitting on the beds and have not seen a female yet. The usual for me, a 4" drop shot worm on a weightless #2 octopus hook, twitched in the bed seems to be working. 

 

 

Having some trouble locating the females, I suspect this week they should move closer to the beds and will be a little easier to catch. Jig or lipless crank ticking bottom will be the first baits tried. 

 

Water temp is 64 main lake, back water bays and shallow areas are in the 70's during the warm days.

Have caught fish on anything and everything, mostly jigs just because that's what I tend to throw. All of my biggest fish except for a couple have been caught on a t rig mainly because they have came from lily pads. Jigs don't fish through pads as good as a t rig. Top water bite is still kinda meh. Night fishing has been meh so far this year. All of my best days have coincided with the best days according to the moon phases. According to my notes, that is the only trend. Wind direction, air pressure, etc. have shown no trends as far as my best days go. I haven't even fished the lake once this year.

I just moved into a new house so money has been tighter than normal, and the boat needs some repairs also. All of my fishing has been from the bank in rivers, creeks, small lakes, and ponds, so all of my fish have been caught shallow.

Cranks, senkos, and spinners in SE indy - SE Ohio. One 5 lbs, two 4 lbs, two 3 lbs, and around 15 dinks over the last month (all the good ones from AEP in E ohio). I'll probably start with t-rigged lizards tomorow and go from there.

I can't think of a bait I haven't caught a fish on yet this year other than a creature bait like a baby brush hog or a big worm. Fish are wrapping up the spawn around here so it's pretty wide open how you want to catch fish. Topwater has been the ticket this past week with some fish coming on bladed jigs, beavers, spinnerbaits, and wacky rigs as well.

They seem to be pretty picky where I'm at, but maybe that's just because I'm a noobie fisherman. SE Michigan. Water has been pretty cold, but it's certainly been warming up around here. It was 80 yesterday and I was a puddle.

Mainly been fishing frogs since around November. Spro poppin frogs and spro bronzeye both in nasty shad color. Caught a couple on jigs, wake baits and swimbaits,. but 99% of my fish have came on frogs.

Probably a better technique to use at this point in time where I am but I'm having a lot of fun with frogs. Sometimes I have to work them a bit but I've been getting action on them since March.

I've only been out a couple of times recently as the season just opened in Wisconsin.  Suspending cranks and tubes getting most of the smallie action there.  Here in Illinois, water temps. are about what you're experiencing. The male largemouth are on beds, but the few females I've caught have been staging out deeper and were still full of eggs. I'm guessing they'll be moving up shortly.  The males have been hitting PopR's and 4in. stick worms on a 1/16 oz. jig head and the females were all taken on a 1/4oz. short arm spinnerbait with a single willow blade and a curly tail grub trailer on the fall.

Most of the bass I have caught this year have been shallow and in vegetation.  Over the past couple of weeks I have had some luck with shallow running crankbaits, and poppers, worked over the salad below.

Torpedo (40 in one day), wacky rig Trick Stick, weightless Trick Worm have caught most of my fish. I've gotten a couple over 5 lbs and several in the 3-4 range. But no trophies yet. At this point that's what I'm looking for.

 

One on PopR, few on Rapala minnow, X Rap, Bomber A, Roadrunner. Fish have cooperated so I haven'y gotten to frogs yet.

Being in the tropics of south Florida we have been fishing all year.  To date I have caught between 500 to 6oo bass, since I fish almost everyday.  90% have been caught on senko type baits, zoom trick worms and zoom super flukes.  The remaining 10% have come on jig heads, rattle traps, frogs, and rapala # 11 stick baits.  Since deep water down here is 10 feet, most have been caught shallow, in pad fields or adjacent to drop offs.

Water Clarity: ~10ft

Weeds: Minimal with Green Slime on the bottom.

Fishing Depth:  <10ft

 

Last month (April) I was catching some good smallmouth with the average weight around 3lb on a Bladed California Swim Jig. Recently (May) the largest has been just over 2lb. The majority of the most recent fish I caught have been on a Fish Head Spin + Fluke. A few fish came on a Clackin' Rap, and others on a Brown Jig & also a Brown Tube.

Went out one day to a lake with flooded cattails.  Couldn't buy a strike on soft plastics but white spinnerbaits were tearing them up.  Fast forward one week.  Same lake.  Same cattails.  Same basic conditions.  Bass wanted nothing to do with spinnerbaits and, naturally, demanded soft plastics. Going out again on Thursday.  I wonder what kind of curve they will throw at us this time.  Post cold front-may be tougher.

Well yesterday i went out to lopez lake and cuaght a few decent bass on a shaky head but that was it it was a pretty slow day.

The biggest Lmb i cuaght was on a 1/8oz owner shaky head brown color with a 6in roboworm straight tail arons magic color and 6lb flouro.

Most of my Bass have been caught on T-rigs and squarebills.  Tried getting to deeper bass using deep diving jerkbaits but the Northern Pike jump all over them (good problem to have).  I'm going to see what kinda damage I can do with lipless crankbaits this evening but I'll always have a T-rigged Rage Craw on standby.

Fished Here in dayton about half a dozen times with no catch. went today and threw top, drug bottom, and spun the middle. No Luck. Pulled out a blue gill squarebill with a depth of 2-5 ft. was ticking the top of the beds and pulled in a 15" male LMB. Good way to end the day. Water was choppy but very clear. was on shore so couldn't tell you the water temp. Nobody seemed to be getting anything during the few hours i was there.
