BassMaster17 Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 This species is also known as mudfish, Grinnel, and most commonly Dogfish. I personally love fishing for them, just leave some live bait in a channel or mucky bottom and you'll have a pretty good chance of catching one. and NO they are not an invasive species nor bad to the envirement/lakes in the US like the Snakehead, so if you think you have caught a Snakehead and are about to kill it, look to see if it has 1 or 2 anal fins, if 1 long anal fin, its a Snakehead, if 2 its a Bowfin. now back to the topic, Who else fishes for this fun aggressive and challenging fish? Super User Catch and Grease Posted May 8, 2015 Super User Posted May 8, 2015 I like to target them some days, its a blast catching them on small lures and light line! Quote
atcoha Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I catch them pretty regular here in NW Florida and South Alabama. I don't particularly target them, but if that's what biting, that's ok with me. They are fun to catch. I have the best luck dragging lizards or worms, even though I am after bass, they hit the same plastics. Quote
OntarioFishingGuy Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I have never targeted them intentionally, but plan to this summer. Quote
dave Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 We target them in southern Virginia when my partner and I go there for the month of September. We like them. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted May 11, 2015 Super User Posted May 11, 2015 If i had a place that had high of enough concentration of them I would most definitely target them. I love catching them and they are a blast and I am still itching to get one on my fly rod. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted May 12, 2015 Super User Posted May 12, 2015 I catch several a year when going after LMB in the Everglades. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 21, 2015 Global Moderator Posted May 21, 2015 Caught my first two ever fishing in the Everglades a couple days ago. Makes me wish there was somewhere around here to fish for them. Quote
