They're Getting Better

This past winter I bought a Garmin Virb Elite, finally joining everyone that films their trips on the water. I'm not very tech savvy so there's been a lot of trial and error (mostly error), trying to figure out how to properly film everything and editing the videos. My first few attempts were from the bottom of the boat where not much could be seen. I recently bought a suction cup mount and moved the camera to my boat's windshield and it helped a lot with being able to see what was going on and even seeing some of the strikes. I probably need to get a microphone for it next. Some of the on the water commentary and shenanigans that go on in my boat are probably more entertaining than the actual fishing   There's a couple pretty good examples of that in this video.

I'm enjoying my Virb as well and do agree there is a learning curve - but I'm getting there.

 

Having the camera rolling all the time adds a fun & interesting layer to the whole day.

 

 btw - if your boat has an accessories (cigarette lighter type) plug outlet some where, the 12 Volt Vehicle Power Cable for the Virb, all but eliminates concern regarding battery life for your camera.

 

The item is listed as a charger - but it powers the unit for filming perfectly.

 

  I use one and with a 64 size card I can easily get a whole days fishing in without changing out ANYTHING - very nice.

I bought the power cable at the same time I bought the suction mount for it Worked out perfectly and keeps me from having to buy more batteries unless I want to use it somewhere other than my boat.

Call it what you want, but courageous probably isn't the best description. I found the hook of a Dep's 175 Slide swimmer with the bottom of a toe last weekend. Thankfully it was so sharp that it just ripped the bottom of my toe open instead of burying. I've always been a fan of being barefoot since I was a kid. I've pulled so many stickers and thorns out of my feet from doing it you'd think I'd learn

Ha ha, reminds me of myself! I live on a farm and basically am walking around with bare feet all over the farm feeding goats and chickens and doing chores

I've never gone bare foot while fishing though cause I'm always fishing from shore but if I had a boat I'm sure I would.

Those River 2 Sea Bubble Walkers come with Daiichi trebles and weigh half an ounce, I promise I was hooked if that bait hit me.

 

I'm pretty helpless when it comes to electronics, and even I'm able to use the Virb with ease. I push the power button, then slide the giant record button forward, the light goes from green to red and I try to catch a fish

 Like I said, still a work in progress. It's surprising how much you can learn about your own fishing style from watching yourself fish. I really like the Virb. I just got the wristband that allows me to start/stop recording remotely as well as take still pictures. I think that's going to help improve them quite a bit as well.
