Super User retiredbosn Posted May 7, 2015 Super User Posted May 7, 2015 My boat has a stepped hull, proper place for the HD transducer is below motor mount. I got to thinking I can flip the mount and mount it flush to the step, which will get the puck deeper. I would of course have to reinforce the mounting, probably thru bolts and metal plate. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted May 7, 2015 Super User Posted May 7, 2015 You would have to grind/file some of the plastic block to get it to fit on the transducer. Then there is the issue of the kink in the cable if you try to put that much under the step. You could add a spacer between the mount and hull to get more cable clearance and have most of the transducer under the step. No you won't have to reinforce the hull, it is plenty sturdy. Just checked it out with one of my spares. Quote

Can't get anything by you, lol. That's the transducer that came with the Helix, the service department at Bass pro installed it trying to do me a favor, on the TM! My TM is a 36 volt, the.rf interference was unbelievable, I purchased a XTM 9 HDSI 180 T for the Helix which at the time was bow mounted. My 899 came in this week and I'm waiting on the mail for the new transducer to get here, did the swap out with Humminbird. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted May 8, 2015 Author Super User Posted May 8, 2015 Getting a better look at the mounting for the HDSI, I'm not sure that this set up will work with that mount. Need to find an exploded view of the mount. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted May 8, 2015 Super User Posted May 8, 2015 With the XHS mount you have to have it attached backwards--the mount not above the transducer. That is why you have remove some of the plastic to you can get the bolts in the holes. I already tried all the possible positions to duplicate what you did with the Compact SI transducer. The alternative is to attach the mount to the vertical surface where the livewell intake and drain is. Another alternative is to get the Transducer Shield and Saver bracket, attach that under the step and then put the transducer in that bracket. I use that bracket for trolling motor mounting the HDSI. 1 Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted May 8, 2015 Author Super User Posted May 8, 2015 Thanks, I really appreciate the pictures. I'm sure there is a solution. I have some ideas to give me the depth I want as well. I'll post a picture when I'm done. 1 Quote
