Pitching/flipping Setup

Hi everyone,

 

 

I was interested in buying a pitching/flipping setup within the $300-425 range. By this I mean that I would need a pole and baitcast reel, any suggestions? I only bankfish as I don't have access to a boat. I'm looking forward to your responses.

Do you have a combo to throw jigs? If so, use that one. It kind of sucks lugging around a big ole flipping stick with the rest of your gear.

I agree. Unless you're fishing some really heavy cover you can get away without a flippin stick or 65lb braid. I used my 7'3 MH *** with 15 lb flourocarbon to pitch a pit boss into fallen trees a couple weeks ago and pulled out a 4.5 pounder and several others over 3 pounds with no trouble.

Pitching is a technique used to present a bait. It can be done with any spinning, or casting combo. It can be done with any bait you want. Cover dictates what rod and line I use to do it.

Most people don't actually flip either. It's also not something I see a bank fisherman doing.

Tell us more about what type of cover you will be fishing and what baits you want to use also.

I have 7'0 MH Lew's American American Hero Speed Stick paired with a BPS Pro Qualifier.

I don't normally fish heavy cover, usually there is floating vegetation, algae, submerged plants, and emergent plants.

Quite honestly I think it'd be a waste to have a combo that you only use to flip and pitch with in most situations from the bank. Since you don't fish a lot of heavy cover, there's really no need to get a different setup. If you need to flip or pitch you can do it with what you currently own.

Chronarch Ci4 in the 7 ratio, and an Abu Veritas 7' MH. For true heavy cover go with a 7'6" H. Fifteen pound mono or fluoro is the minimum, 20 is better,

For pitching docks, I use a 7'3" MH *** *** with an 8.3:1 Lews Tournament MB spooled with 30# Smackdown and a 20# FC Sniper leader. I like the high speed reel for taking in slack quickly on fish that hit the bait on the fall and for making quick follow up casts.

For heavy cover I'm using a heavy action Abu Vendetta with a Shimano Curado I in 7.1:1 ratio spooled with 50# smackdown. I'll throw heavy jigs and punch rigs with this rod.

So that's example of two different rigs for different pitching situations. Food for thought.
