Can this bait be fished successfully for largemouth? Im assuming it can easily. What size hook for a large wide gap worm hook would work? Im curious to try this weedless rig in a pond or something. What do you guys know about this bait for freshwater

I don't know that you can use a EWG worm hook. Big hammers are trailer style swimbaits. They and meant to be fished on a jig head and big hammer also makes those that are designed for the different sizes. I fish them on heads but mostly use them as trailers for swimjigs chatter baits ect.

The worm hooks with the screws in them is what im talking about. the weighted ones

Yea I undershand I mean you could give it a shot an see what happens I guess. The baits don't have a head to them and they are a solid body bait not really designed to have a hook come up through it. Not to mention they are V shaped and come to a point on the bottom.

Sure bass will eat them. I agree that they're designed to be fished on a swimbait jighead, not on a belly weighted swimbait hook though. You could rig one on it's side with a screwlock hook though, otherwise it's going to be extremely difficult to rig them right with a swimbait hook.

Yeah, I've tried rigging them weedless.  Didn't turn out great.  If I were to try it again I would go with an 8/0 Owner Beast Twistlock.  And make a long deep slit from the nose to the belly.

I've used the 3" big hammers rigged sideways weedless and flipped them in reeds and other cover with decent results. Also good for bed raiding.

You can use a weedless jig head. Or I have a way to make any exposed jig hook 100% weedless but that's confidential.

I have yet to catch one on mine but I admit I dont fish it enough with all the other big toys I got..

The 9" sledgehammer needs a swimjig head with a huge hook.. I got a 7/0 on mine with a heavy jighead

Firstly like the other gent said you cant get a weighted screwlock on right with this lure as its not a splitbelly.

Rigging it sideway is no good I find as well.

Its very long and with a screwlock hook it wobbles like you wont believe (not in a good way) .. you need the weight of the jighead to stablizie it.
