Spinning Reels Breaking At The Neck

This past Sunday my Pinnacle Deadbolt spinning reel snapped at the neck when I was fighting a fish.  It is crazy because this is the 3rd time I have had a spinning reel break in the same neck area.  The first one was fairly new Abu model which snapped in the exact same manner,  my local dealer where I purchased it gave me a replacement and it also broke exactly in the same spot.  The Pinnacle is a reel I have used for 10 plus years.  I have fished mostly spinning reels all my life and have never had one snap until lately. I am pond fishing for Largemouths using a 6 ft med stiff rod and # 30lb  (8 lb diameter ) power-pro braid. Wondering if anyone else has had this problem.  ( I hand-lined in all three fish so it wasn't a total loss )

Never broke anything off, though I've seen it. Usually low end graphite frame models.

Sorry you are having this problem. Never heard of this before! And over my many years on the water, I've never seen it happen to anyone I was fishing with either. Thanks for the heads up regardless.

Are you reeling at a break neck speed?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by neck.  I've had a few break off at the foot over the years (where it connects to the pole), and a number of bails fly off into oblivion.  Can't say I've had any other failures though.

I took it to mean the stem off the foot that attaches to the rod.

I work in a fishing department and I have never seen a reel come back like that. You must have one heck of a strong reeling arm!

Me too, and I've never had it happen to me.

3 reels and 2 brands, I get the feeling the problem is not with the reels.

I've owned a lot of different types of spinning reels, never broke one like that. I'd think they'd almost have to have some serious impact with something that caused some damage prior to them breaking.

Don't get offended but if you are breaking spinning reels at the stem it is because of something you are doing to them. It may be how they are stored or some other way. The stem will snap if too much stress is on that part, the only time I saw it happen was on my buddy's old Quantum Hypercast, he would just chuck it in his pick-up bed and go and one day he threw a 50lb bag of quick-crete in his truck and never looked, when he got home he picked the bag up and saw the reel was under it but it looked ok. The following day we went out and as soon as he hooked a fish the reel stem broke. That is the only time I saw one break and we know what caused it so being that you have had multiple brakes, I'm going to assume that it something you are doing to it in handling, storage, transportation, or all three to cause the stems to crack and then break.

You must have your drag buttoned down all the way,i have seen spinning reels break the stem when they are reeled with heavy weights the constant back and forth motoin does it.there is a vid of a daiwia saltist a big one breakin at the stem and its aluminum.
