JShrock07 Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 I recently moved into a decent house with a huge garage for my boat and now that I have the garage the wife can't keep me in the house when I'm not working. I really want to begin to built my own baits, make dressed treble hooks, hard baits and soft plastics, and all kinds of stuff. Does anyone have a VERY EASY beginners type of a plan to start up my bait making projects? It could be anything. If you want to help me just send me an email (takintheheat7@yahoo.com), pm or post it here. Thanks in advance!! Quote
LooksLikeSinbad Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 I would recomend buying unpainted lead jig heads of different styles and shapes. You can paint them yourself, add weedguards or coil keepers, add skirts, etc. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted December 27, 2008 Super User Posted December 27, 2008 This may help. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1229910956 Quote
BIG M Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 I would suggest that you figure out what you really would like to build first. It takes a lot of time to master each skill. There is also a considerable investment in tools and supplies for each form of tackle. I can help you in the crankbait dept. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted December 27, 2008 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted December 27, 2008 Dude you are sooooo screwed. The tackle making monkey is seen way less but is much more vicious when he attacks. Remind your wife to check the garage before she files the missing persons report. ;D I started with soft plastics then moved into rods and now the monkey is starting to whisper something about crankbaits. Bass Dude Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I agree with the post to master one thing at a time. Tackle Underground is a great forum to go to for advice. It's totally devoted to all aspects of tackle making and they are very willing to pass along info. Quote
ring fry Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Dude you are sooooo screwed. The tackle making monkey is seen way less but is much more vicious when he attacks. Remind your wife to check the garage before she files the missing persons report. ;DI started with soft plastics then moved into rods and now the monkey is starting to whisper something about crankbaits. I started with crank baits a few years ago. Initial 'starter' kit was like 30 bucks. I've got 4 - 5 hundred dollars worth of 'stuff' and haven't made a crank bait in a couple of years. About 6 weeks ago I got the starter kit for making soft plastics for something lik $39.00. When my current order gets here today, I'll already be in for about $500.00 and I have a list in the garage of other necessities I need to order. Yep, you're screwed! ;D Quote
