I was wondering what jerkbaits you use and catch trout on? I`ll mainly be fishing in lakes for rainbows.  Thanks for any suggestions.

I've caught rainbows, browns, and cutthroat on Rapala Countdowns. The rainbow color countdown seems most productive. This is on the north fork of the White River in AR. Rooster tails have also been very productive for me.

I've always heard that 78 size lc pointers are good. Haven't caught any one them yet though

Lucky Craft Slender Pointer 97MR has caught me more trout than any other jerkbait.

Is that because its more of a subdued action?

It actually has a wider side to side glide than a lot of baits. I think it may just be the slender profile, and the fact that they run nearer the surface where trout often feed. I've also done very well with the Lucky Craft Spazz for trout in rivers.

ironically, i catch alot of trout as bycatch on the RC STX mini. It might be bigger than what your looking for, but they do work.

It's funny you would say that, because I cuaght my first jerkbait trout on the larger size of the stx while fishin for bass so I'll have to try the smaller size for trout.

When I am not fishing lakes or ponds for Bass, I am fishing mountain streams for wild trout.  I swear by the 04 X-Rap in Rainbow Trout or Olive Green Muddler colors, if I bring one downstream near a trout and it gets seen, it seems to get a bite almost every time.

Other lures I use for trout that work really well for me are Rebel Tracdown Minnows, Rapala Ultralight minnows, Rapala Countdown, etc...  I fish some quicker rivers and the suspending and sinking lures are the best for getting to the bottom where the big Brown Trout hang out.  I have read that trout do 90% of their feeding under the surface, and most of the bigger Brown trout I have caught have been at the bottom of deep pools.   I stick to the two smallest sizes available in most cases, as those work well for me.

If you can't get 'em on a crank, use an inline spinner. (My favorite ones are the Vibrax series.)
