mhilgtx Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 So I watched the weigh in live today and the telling Mercer to bring a Classic to the Delta. Not that big a deal. Then all of a sudden Trip Weldon gets on the mic and says that the group that evaluates sites for the Classic have or are in fact looking at Sacramento as a possible site for a future Classic. Then several of the pros mentioned having the classic out there, maybe because they heard the comments by Trip but maybe that is the rumor. I know next year it is going to be on Grand Lake but they have to look out more than one or two years. So now I am wondering is this years tournament just a dry run to gauge interest for a 2017 or 2018 Classic? Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted May 4, 2015 Super User Posted May 4, 2015 I don't know, but that would a heck of a Classic. Bring it on, by all means! 1 Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted May 4, 2015 Super User Posted May 4, 2015 They fish out west every few years. I would say not. But then you never know. They seem to send them West every few years. Probably because most live back East so probably easier for most of the competitors to end up in the Central or Eastern part of the country instead of all the way out here. But glad to see them come this way and fish some West Coast fish. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted May 4, 2015 Super User Posted May 4, 2015 I could definitely see them going somewhere to avoid the bad weather of the past 3 or 4 Classics. Especially since it could be another cold one in 2016. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't go to the Delta or Clear Lake for the Classic. 1 Quote
Logan S Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 I think the Delta would be a great Classic site, just don't make them launch from Sacramento. Get rid of the 3+ hour round trip boat ride so the guys can get a full day of competition in. Sacramento would probably make a great host city, but that long run every day would really take away from what could be a fantastic tournament. Technically it could still be the host city, they would just launch from somewhere else. (Like Hartwell, they weren't launching in Greenville even though it was the host) Running is part of the game and many times there are many anglers making long runs...But in this case it would be the entire field making that run so instead of creating excitement (Like McClelland on the Sabine or the guys who make Venice run on the Louisiana Delta), you're just lopping off 3 hours of fishing from everyone. Lots of great fisheries out west that would be productive that time of year, I'd like to see it out there on any of them. 2 Quote
DTack Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Here's some information that may make some folks excited, I know it does for me. There is only one thing I am not sure about, but I had though that in the past they had trailered boats at a ramp and then drove the fish/boats over to an arena or auditorium to weigh the fish. Now, I am being very optimistic here, but I will admit I would absolutely love to see a classic out here. I know the West Coast has earned a bad reputation with some people and I certainly don't blame them. One thing is for sure, some fans out here really, really, really love bass fishing. One thing that is happening in Sacramento is we are getting a new sports arena for our Kings franchise, which will be located in downtown Sacramento right off of I5 our major interstate through the entire state. Now, I would NOT want to see them go out of Sacramento again. To me I was honestly a bit scared for the safety of these guys, I know they're beyond experienced drivers but I heard a few horror stories of killswitches coming off and guys almost going out of the boat from unexpected wakes and what not. What we have is about 45 minutes away, a large launch ramp where we could launch the boats and possibly (once again in a perfect world) trailer them back to Sacramento's arena. Just thinking out loud here but that's some "local" info that may change some minds or get others more excited! I know I would be! 2 Quote
