Use Line Conditioner?

Do you use line conditioner? What do you think it does for you? Do you use it for spinning rig or baitcast? I have both.

 

I have a Pfleuger President 6940 spinning reel on a 7' Med Berkley Lightning Rod Shock rod, the latter claiming it was designed for Advanced Superline. So, I have Sufix 832 20 lb Advanced Superline on it. Whatever that is. After using it about a month on numerous fishing trips, I note that the line is kinda curling up into rings, it's not laying flat. I took the bait off and dragged it behind my boat at about 20mph for about half a mile. I don't know that it made any difference.

 

So, now I bought some KVD line conditioner, lol. I have not used spinning reels much, I have always used baitcast. But, I do get my share of backlashes. Gotta figure this out better. Lately, I have been fishing weightless flukes and 1/8 oz shakey head worms and now, a 1/16 oz Ned rig a lot. I have setups from Med to MH.

 

Do you like line conditioners?

I'm not sure if line conditioner helps with braid or if you even need it with braid but fluorocarbon and mono it works. Now I'm not sure on line conditioners but I can tell you that I never believed in the KVD line and lure conditioner until I got some gifted and when I was testing fluorocarbon line out it really helped me and then I used it when I went back to mono and to make a long story short, I will never go without KVD line and lure conditioner again. I used the Reel Magic and it is a silicone type spray, I still have it but I use it by spraying a little in a rag and wiping my reel bodies down with it when I tear them down for cleaning.  The KVD stuff is fantastic when you have line with high memory, it really relaxes it and allows for good casting, and even mono with very little memory still has some so it doesn't matter what mono I'm using, it gets the KVD L&L before I hit the water.

I used KVD L&L everytime I spool a reel, and the night before each trip. Almost all my setups are flouro and the conditioner makes a big improvement in the handling of the line. Less coils and line attempting to jump off spinning reels.

I've been told it does nothing for braid. Just getting it wet with water does the same thing fwiw.

It works with clear lines, but I don't really use it much anymore. I used to put it on everything every one but somehow have not gotten back into that habit this year. No issues from not using it either.

I use line conditioner. I find it helps maintain line very well. Every so often I go to my backyard, take out 100 ft of line and spray down the spool every 30 feet. This way, when I go fishing, the line is straight. No coils anywhere to be seen. As far as braid. I used  to spray my spools of braid down, however all that did was preserve the color of the braid a little better. 0 change in performance.

Always on anything not-braid. I don't know if it would help but braid seems limp and manageable without it.

The line should not be coiling, you've somehow introduced line twist. Dragging your line behind you going 20mph will do nothing at best make it worse more likely. When trolling line to remove twist, you have to go slow. I fished spinning gear exclusively for 20+ years and I don't know how ppl get all the line twist. I can honestly state that I never had twist like ppl describe here, with the exception of when I overfilled the spool. Anyway let out 100 feet of line or so, troll slowly for 5 minutes or so. That will remove the twist. Another way that I prefer is tying a swivel on and then tie that to a post, walk the line off, close the bail load your rod you'll actually see the line rolling removing the twist. I did this everytime I filled my spool, I was awful about introducing twist when spooling my reel. The fastest way to introduce twist is to reel while a fish is taking drag.

I was real skeptical at first about it but I used it on my jig setup when I spooled it up and some the night before I went to fish and definitely noticed a difference in how the line was more easily managed and less prone to backlashing.

All of my fluoro spooled reels get a dose of KVD L&L the night before, and then again the morning of, on every fishing outing. It makes a big difference.

Nope - never had a use for it. Keep fresh line spooled as needed, and take out line twist when necessary - always good to go.

KVD L&L on everything for me, I dont use braid. Spray some on when spooling and the day before a trip... Makes flouro coil a lot less

I have 3 rods with 65# Sunline FX2 braid and 2 with 15# Yo-Zuri.  I have been neglecting the YZ for awhile and have noticed a difference in memory over the last week or so.  I fish almost every day so my lines get a lot of use.  I have been telling myself that I'll gwt back to regularly putting the KVD LnL on.  After a slew of overruns yesterday I'm finally going to listen to myself.
